    I personally do not like the word bimbo.  It seems to me that this
    is one of those terms that is derogatory not just to the individual
    it is used against but to women in general, maybe because it
    represents a stereotype.  What does it mean anyway?
    
    I think that Jessica Hahn is sad in that in order to get self-respect
    she felt that she had to pose in playboy, get plastic surgery, and
    become one of Hefner's playmate's.  To me that means that she needed
    an overwhelming amount of male sexual admiration to make her feel
    like a worthwhile person.  And this is in response to an experience
    that she called rape.  If it makes her happy fine, but I think there
    is some twisted thinking going on there.

    I think she's just going overboard on the discovery that despite
    what "those men" did to her, sex is a good thing.  I remember
    thinking and saying some of the same things when I was 16 or 17.
    And with the way she was raised and all, she's no more than 16
    emotionally and sexually. 
    
    Hopefully, after a bit she'll come to a balance where she can
    enjoy sex as an integrated part of her life, not as the only
    game in town.
    
    "Bimbo" implies that an intelligent thoughtful woman would
    never display her body in pulic -- which is an unfair and untrue
    stereotype if I ever heard one . . .

      I think Bimbo means more than that.  The media was calling Jessica
    Hahn, Fawn Hall, and someone else, can't remember who, the three
    bimbos for a while.  Maybe I will have to rent the VCR "The attack
    of the killer bimbo" to find out what one is.  :-)

    didn't give a definition of bimbo, just a reference to one
    implication of it.  
    
    The third one was Gary Hart's girlfriend, whose name I've
    forgotten.  I found it interesting that the media lumped together
    a possible rape victim, a party girl, and an administrative
    secretary with top-secret security clearance who was being
    questioned about helping her boss cover up evidence.

    and that could be why she's in it.

    Re .3, I agree, Richard.  I think she was after money more than
    self-respect.  Of all the things she knows how to do looking and
    acting sexy is probably the most lucrative.

    it means.  I doubt it even has a dictionary definition.  So let
    me rephrase the question:

    I used the word Bimbo because that is the word that SHE used!
    
    She did the first Playboy photos to "make her feel like a woman,
    and to clean her soul".  I think that those pics did that.  But
    then to get the boob-implants, and the other plastic sergery, the
    2nd layout, and this vid, well, how much of a woman does she want
    to feel like?  IMO, a rich one!
    
    To me, a bimbo is like a "cheap floozy" (and what, I hear you cry,
    is the definition of "cheap floozy"), not necessarily sleeping around
    or bearing the bod, but in attitude.  But call me naive.
    
    Oh, the dress that she wore in the vid would make Elvira blush!!
    
    In one part of the vid, she and SK are rolling around on the floor,
    while members of Guns & Roses, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Scorpions, and 
    Billy Idol watch on.  Lovely.

       'Bimbo' is an Italian word, and it's an affectionate term for
       a boy; the correspondiong word for a girl is 'bimba'. 
       
       In contemporary American usage, 'bimbo' refers to a woman, and it
       often carries a connotation that the woman lacks intelligence
       and/or morality and/or other qualities.  The closest legitimate
       English equivalent might be 'moll'.

    Believe me, you're not missing too much.  All Idol did was make
    faces.  And there was something just a bit disgusting about watching
    Jessica Hahn rolling on the floor with Sam Kinison.  
    
    On a lighter note, Rodney Dangerfield was in the beginning of the
    vid.  The only bright spot of the whole thing (with the exception
    of Billy's faces.  He was funny.)
    
    Of course, if you _do_ want to see it, I would recommend doing it
    with the sound turned off, or maybe playing "White Wedding" over
    it.

    to be a PRIEST?  Oh yes, the man with possibly the foulest mouth

    I cannot stand listening to the guy!!! Her?  Well, let me just say
    that she of the ilk that gives 'us all' a bad name.  She has the
    right to masquerade around with whomever she wishes, but I
    don't agree with how she justifies it.
    
    Sam K. got his big break on one of Rodney's HBO comedy specials.
    Come to think of it I did laugh!  His humor does go way overboard
    with vulgarity, but that can be funny sometimes.  But what gets
    me the most is the *screaming* - I literally get a headache!  That's
    the same reason I couldn't always get through a half hour of
    'All in the Family' - too much yelling!

    Yes, my grandmother is still quite a woman -- still going strong
    at 78. 
    
    She also said that she used to want to be a flapper, but they were
    out of style by the time she was old enough to leave home.
    
    I guess it was from her that I learned not to be judgemental about
    another woman's sexuality and sexual expression.  She was one
    hundred percent loyal to my grandfather while he was alive, but
    she wanted some fun in her life and after he died, she went out
    and found it.  She made friends with a much younger woman [Laura]
    who was very "easy", and my father objected pretty strenuously to
    the friendship.  My grandmother informed him that Laura's morality
    was between Laura and her God, and unless he was in Laura's shoes
    and knew how she was feeling and how having men made her feel, he
    didn't have any business even wondering about it.  Turned out
    Laura had been raped not that long ago and was in counselling, and
    as she got her self-esteem back, she quit thinking she had to say
    yes . . . 
    
    Anyway, if another woman wants to take off her clothes and roll
    around on the floor in front of a camera, whether for love or
    money or low self-esteem, I'm not going to be the one to judge
    her.  I don't stand in her shoes and I don't know what I'd do if
    I'd been through the same things she has.  Maybe if I'd been used
    so callously by so many people, from my parents to my most trusted
    spiritual advisors, I'd get a little cynical and decide that I may
    as well go for the pleasure and the money like everybody else...

    A bit in either _People_ magazine or _Rolling Stone_ on the video
    quotes Jessica Hahn as saying something like, "Weird though it might
    sound, I feel like I'm closer to God than I ever have been."  My
    interpretation varies between two poles:  She's a complete fake
    or she's doing a good job on building her self-image.

    Gee, I guess then the video "Attack of the killer Bimbos"
    won't get much viewing from this crowd in here......

    I finally just got to see this video, "Wild Thing", starring Jessica
    Hahn, last night.  I thought it was pretty funny myself, especially
    at the end when the guy (forgot his name) who does it is yelling
    things like, "Why didn't you tell me you were a demon from hell?!!!"

    I didn't find it offensive, per se, but I was neither amused or
    entertained by it.  All the trouble that JH went through to show
    what a sweet and good girl she was, and there she is in this vid
    rolling around on the floor in an arena with Sam Kinison, surrounded
    by spectators.
    
    Also, SK's voice grates on my nerves like fingernails on a black

    Re .25, as I mentioned before I think this video is very funny.
     I love the remarks he yells out.  I know I've felt that way before
    about former dates.  I get a kick out of hearing him yell things
    that I've wanted to yell at people (men I've dated!) before but
    didn't because I didn't want to appear uncool or unable to handle
    the way things are.
    
    I'm not worried about my 14 yr. old daughter seeing this video.
     She's seen it and she thinks it's funny but added that she thought
    Jessica Hahn was a "jerk" for having her "boobs" made so big, and
    for writhing around like that with them "hanging out."
    
    Also, I, personally, don't consider Billy Idol or Bon Jovi to be
    "second rate" rock musicians.  (Have you ever heard Richie Sambora
    play the guitar?  I'd like to be so "second rate"!)  And, I think
    Billy Idol is a very sexy, charasmatic performer with a good voice
    and good songs.  I also think Jon Bon Jovi, besides being one of
    the best looking men in the music business today, is a talented
    singer/performer and writer.
    
    There is, however, one rock video that I've seen lately that *does*
    disgust me.  That's "In Your Room" by The Bangles.  (I always feel
    like being able to say to them, "Don't you "girls" have anything
    *nice* to wear?")  Lyrics to that song go, "I'll do anything you
    want me to in your room."  Now there's a video that I'd hate to
    have my 14 yr. old daughter take to heart.  (I can see doing what
    *I* want to in his room, but not "anything he wants me to".  I find
    myself thinking, who know's what he might want her to do? )

    Much as I like the Bangles and all their albums, I can't say I like
    this part.  The song was co-written by Susanna Hoffs (who therefore
    gets to have the 'main voice' for it).  Another song she co-wrote
    has the lyrics "I'll do anything that you want me to, anything at
    all, and I'm waiting for you to see that you mean the world to me."
    Since it's part of the chorus, you get to hear it a couple of times.
    Susanna has credits for four out of thirteen songs on the album.
    The other songs, written by other Bangles and their writing partners,
    don't seem to have this attitude.  (Susanna is my least favorite
    Bangle anyway.)

    The ONLY songs that I like by the Bangles are "Walk Like an Egyptian"
    and "Hazy Shade of Winter", for the sole reason that Suzannah Hoffs
    does NOT sing full lead in either!  Being a Simon and Garfunkel
    fan, I at first shuddered at the mere thought of the Bangles remaking
    one of their songs, but when I heard it, I liked the harmony (and,
    as forementioned, the fact that SH does not sing lead).
    
    And I LIKED what they were wearing in the vid "In Your Room" (even
    if I don't like the song".

    Although I may be in left feild, I think all of the work that Jessica
    Hahn had done to herself was to get rid of the "old Jessica" and
    usher in a "new jessica".
    
    All of this "let's look deeper into the whole story" is junk. She's
    doing what she wants to do at an absolutely opportune time. While
    her name is fresh in everyone's mind she capitalized and took advantage
    of everything she could. And there's nothing wrong with that. 
    
    The way things are today everybody's out to make a buck. Remember
    "little Jessica" of the Texas pipeshaft (well) rescue? That little
    girl is now a millionairess and her mommy and daddy are doing very
    well exploiting their little girl. I don't hear too many complaints
    that she's being exploited. Every time she begins to slip from memory
    another magazine runs a story on "a year later or 13 months later,
    How it changed our lives.........ugh.

    Baby Jessica is not being exploited.  One thrown baseball (local
    at that), and one "year later" article does not equate to exploitation.
    The TOWN took advantage of the event.  Also, I would rather be kept
    up to date on a little girl who survived a tragedy than on an ex
    church secretary who was taken advantage of, and got plastic sergery
    to take further advantage of herself.
    
    Personally, my husband and I still get a good feeling when we see
    the photo of Baby Jessica being pulled out of that hole.
                                                            
    But back to the vid, I can't stand listening to it.  I felt like
    someone was yelling in my ear (and the volume wasn't even up high).
    This new thing of screaming comedians is one thing that I can't
    get the hang of.  Bobcat is the only one that I find tolerable.

	Re Baby Jessica:

	My understanding is that her parents are fairly straightforward
	folks who are dealing with the sudden press and influx of donations
	as well as anyone else be be expected to deal with them. I have
	read that one major impact on the parents lives is that they 
	would probably have had another child, but now no longer want to. 
	The reason is that because of the donations, Jessica now has a 
	sizable trust fund she will be able to tap when she becomes of age. 
	To paraphrase what I read her parents as saying "She'll be 
	financially able to do for herself a lot of things that a brother 
	or sister wouldn't be able to do, and we think that would make it 
	hard on both of them."

    I read the _People_ article on Baby Jessica.  It sounded like her
    parents were being pretty clear-headed about it.  They've got a
    new house, of course, and naturally their financial future is a
    lot more secure.  But despite their youth (yeah, I know, I should
    talk ...) they seem to have it pretty well together.

    Back to the video Wild Thing.  I just saw it for the first time
    this weekend.  I was wondering if anyone knows if Aerosmith was
    in the video?   I saw a couple of guys that looked like Steve Tyler
    and Joe Perry.  There are so many bands that imitate their looks,
    I was just wondering if they were the real thing.

    I just have to get my two cents on this one.  One morning before
    work, I was drinking and watching MTV to see if any good tunes were
    on.  Well.....I almost choked on my coffee when that "very tasteful"
    Sam Kinnerson video came on.....and WHO is rolling around on the
    floor like a "ladie" with a very provocative dress on was that one
    and only wholesome EX-church secretary (oh! I dont do secretary
    jobs anymore!) Jessica Hahn.........I knew she was going out with
    Sam (and I know it is not for his looks) Kinneson, but when I seen
    this...I almost passed out...that says it all..........and by the
    way....the other "ladie" from the bimbo trio was Donna Rice!

    Seen on TV yesterday : an advertisement for an upcoming show
    (pay-per-view) combining Heavy Metal music and Women's Mud
    Wrestling. Ms. Hahn will be co-host. 

    I saw a story on the Hahn-hosted mud wrestling show (she just hosts;
    doesn't participate) which included a brief interview with Hahn
    herself. Her most interesting comment was along the lines of "You [the
    media] created me, and this is the result".
