    How bout' RB Croteau Photography on West Pearl St. in Nashua (Downtown)
    889-1101.  He also does weddings.  He's not exactly cheap but he
    is an excellent photographer.  I've gotten pictures taken from him
    and I really can't complain, they came out great.
    
    Also, Aladdin Studio on Columbine Dr. in Nashua (next to Nashua
    Airport).  883-1011.  His prices are very reasonable.

    As I recall, most photographers that do weddings, also do engagements
    shots and fairly cheaply, in the hopes of getting your wedding
    business.  You might want to call around to photographers that
    advertise for weddings...

    I also recommend Croteau--I was married last October and my
    husband and I went to Ralph Wright Studios in Nashua--we were
    very, very unhappy with them.  Fortunately, our album DID end
    up looking beautiful--but only after alot of tears on my part.
    
    Once the wedding is over -- you can't go back and get the pictures
    the photographer missed!

    Croteau is excellent but....Everyone knows they are excellent and Croteau
    tends to over book during the busy wedding months. They need more
    help for the amount of work they are doing there.
    
    Croteau took my pictures at my wedding last June.  It took them 10
    weeks for my proofs; ordinarily it only takes 4 or 5 weeks. I selected
    my proofs by September and my album wasn't ready until March.  There
    were errors in the way they put together the album, it was not finished
    completely until May, almost a year later.
    
    Enlargements I wanted for Christmas gifts I ordered in September and they
    were ready December 23rd, only because called constantly. 
    
    To top it all off they lost a roll of film from my wedding- the formal
    photographs of the two of us and my parents, the two of us and his
    parents,  the two of us and his father and step-mother and the whole
    wedding party together are gone forever.  These to me were the most
    important pictures.  Also I have one photograph of the ushers which
    includes my brother - that is the only photograph I have of my brother
    out of the two hundred pictures taken. 
    
    This is just a warning.  The pictures that he did take were beautiful.
    I have had my graduation, engagement pictures taken there as well and I
    was very satisfied.  The pictures I have of my wedding are wonderful. I
    really like Richard Croteau and his wife Claire, they are nice people
    to deal with. But I still have a hard time recommending him since he
    lost a roll of film that cannot be replaced ever.

    I'm looking for a good portrait photographer in the Boston
    area.
    
    I just checked the photography notesfile, which incidentally
    is now on AFVAX::PHOTO.  All the notes under the keywords 
    PORTRAIT and WEDDINGS were on how to do your own, and it seemed
    to me that this might be a better place to solicit recommendations
    after all.
    
    If you reply to this topic, could you tell me how long it took
    between the sitting and the day you had prints in hand?

    I'd recommend, without hesitation, the portrait work of Arthur Whitty
    in Hollis, New Hampshire.  He does outdoor, natural light photography,
    primarily of couples and families, including pets.  We had our proofs
    back from our 9/23 sitting in two weeks, and will have the finished
    prints in time for holiday mailings.
    
    Whitty does not do weddings, but there were many recommendations for
    the Croteau studio in Nashua in a previous note, or in the predecessor
    conference.
    
    

    Bachrach Studios has the best reputation.

    Bachrach is *great*.  And much to our surprise, the cost is
    not more than other studios whose numbers I got from the Yellow
    Pages.  Every time we used them, we got many more pictures to
    choose from than we expected.  The choice was difficult -- a
    nice problem to have!  But it takes a long time to get an
    appointment...so plan ahead.
    
    	Pennie  (who first had one daughter's picture taken, then
    		 we were so pleased that the next daughter's was
    	  	 taken...and then the grandparents' and then even 
    		 my own!)

What a neat idea...can you give me an idea how much what you are doing
would cost?  (At least an order of magnitude, if nothing else.)

    This is a "third" for BAchrach. I had an 8x10 taken for an Xmas gift
    for an aunt, and I could've used all but 3 of the PROOFS as framed
    photos. These people are *good* - I am not a good subject, and they
    made me look *great*!
    
    Since the photo was for Xmas, youhad to have it taken by Oct
    <something>, and it was available a week or 2 before Xmas. 
    
    In '85 it was $165 for an 8x10, I think it's $185 now. But if you want
    to look *good* - go to Bachrach.

    I guess the cost for Bachrach has gone up a bit (from $165 to $185?)
    but there are several ways of spending that.
    
    You can get one touched up 8x10.  Or you can get several touched
    up proofs, set in nice leatherette folders, or montages (frames
    with 3 proofs set sideways...many options.  Or you can do all of
    the above.  What I did was get an un-touched up 8x10 of the children
    (after all, they don't have many wrinkles to touch up yet!) for
    myself, and about 4 sets of 2-picture folders (at $22 EACH -- that
    included 2 pictures and folder) for all the relatives.  Or you
    could get a dozen wallet sized, etc.
    
    Or, you could get a nicely framed OIL portrait from the photo...
    price on request!  (on request from Bachrach, not me, I never even
    inquired about that one!).
