--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am a avid listener of a Boston Radio station WZLX and also sign on
from time to time to their Boston Net at home.
My wife Theresa, who also works for DEC, got a call the other day from
one of the announcers, Betsy Billard, telling her about the walk they and
others have planned on June 5th.
So we volunteered to be part of this walk for AIDS. I also understand Digital
is a sponsor too.
My whole family is going to make the 10 kilometer walk. My wife and I and our
two sons, 5 and 13 years old.
The reason I'm doing this is not for myself, but my children, and children's
children. I'd hate the thought of this terrible disease escalating and
reaching into everyone's life soon, WITH NO CURE!
The reason I'm entering this note is I'm seeking pledges. These pledges are
TAX DEDUCTIBLE, and DEC will match them.
Will you help? I do have a form that I must turn in on the day of the walk,
along with the money for the pledges.
It's a total of 10 Kilometers and the pledge is per Kilometer.
You can send me a check along with the following, Please.
SPONSOR'S NAME ADDRESS/CITY/STATE/ZIP PHONE	PLEDGE X10 KM AMT
							PER KM =TOTAL PREPAID
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Charlie Calcagni 28 Fells Ave/Milford,Ma 478-4751 $2	$20	$20
You can send it to my home or my work address..

Please help..
Thanks,
Cal.

    Ann Marie,

I certainly will, my whole family is walking, and the 5 year old
    is riding in a wagon.

AIDS hasn't touched my life yet, I hope never!

As a child of the 60's and the Make love not war generation we had
to put up with V.D. Herpes and all the other related curses, but
this is too much. I equate this to Russian Roulette!

I've since settled down and have a wonderful wife, but, but what
about my kids, my newly divorced brother, not to mention, sigh,
a family member who has a habit!

If I can do one little thing that might make the difference, a few
hours out of my life I'll do it!

I'll be with WZLX walkers and will have on a Red hooded MILFORD
sweatshirt, the litte on will be in a blue wagon. I'll look for
    any Decies along the way!

Good luck, and lots of pledges!
    Cal.

National Association of People With AIDS - This organization is
comprised of people with AIDS _for_ people with AIDS

of programs for people with AIDS, ARC, and HIV Infection

and education efforts for all people who need to learn
more about this disease. Programs include housing,
direct financial assistance, mental health sessions,
    		educational workshops, seminars, and hotline.

Also a special grant of $5000 was made to the New England Chapter
of the Names Project to bring the Quilt to New England on the weekend
    of June 18th.
So, it depends what you mean by research. Fenway Community Health
Center lists research and many of the other organizations cite
program development as a goal. Also, the AIDS Action Council seems
pretty clearly to be involved in advocacy at the federal level,
so it counts as a good investment towards getting more money.

I liked raising my bit of money for all these outreach programs.
Whatever may come, we will learn a lot about caring and life through
    these centers.

By the way, _anyone_ walking could have given you this information
since it comes from the pamphlet that came with the pledge form.
Also, forms were widely available from both many of the people
replying in this string or from Health Services in Digital plants.

We had a blast walking -- it was more fun walking with people (and you
know who you are!) than alone as we've done in the past. Afterwards, we
went to Modern Times in Cambridge for a nosh.

When we were done eating, we found that my car was parked facing *into*
a Portugese-American parade. There were a lot of Joe Kennedy signs in
the parade, and then we saw Joe in person. He walked over to the car
(we were sitting there, wondering how to get out of the parade), and
shook hands with all three of us. He also tried to shake hands with a
bag of clothing in the back seat before he realized that it wasn't a
person after all. It could have been worse -- the bag contained baby
clothing, and he could have tried to kiss it!
Normally, I'm kind of indifferent about being a Digital employee (as
opposed to working for some other mega-corporation). On Sunday, I felt
proud that my company was [finally] making an important statement about
an major social problem. I hope they do more of this.
