I don't quite understand why these FGD notes are started.
Why can't the discussion go on in the originating note?
Have I missed something?

Diana,
We're in the midst of a three-month experiment (to be voted on by the
community in early May). For now, we're allowing women to start notes
to be answered by women only (FWO = "For Women Only"). The agreement is
that the following note will be FGD (= "For General Discussion"). In
some cases, the discussion will take place entirely within the FWO
note; in others, the discussion might be more evenly split. Another
part of this experiment is that any discussion of the experiment itself
(other than questions such as you asked) will be deleted. During the
voting period, I expect that there will be opportunity to talk more
about the proposed policy. There's a note in Topic #1 that outlines
this experiment in greater detail.
