503.0. "MEMORY_TEST only supported on Windows NT platforms" by HARMNY::CUMMINS () Wed Feb 19 1997 13:12
A recurring problem in the field seems to be that customers have
MEMORY_TEST set to something other than FULL.
PLEASE NOTE!!!!!
Digital UNIX has claimed support in the past, but there are issues.
Namely, UNIX will/can panic during booting on certain configurations
when MEMORY_TEST is set PARTIAL or NONE. The VMUNIX team is still
investigating what the problem is.
OpenVMS does not support MEMORY_TEST set to anything other than FULL.
Windows NT supports partial memory testing.
In the case of NT, memory untested by power-up XSROM code is not tested
elsewhere either. Once UNIX officially claims support for MEMORY_TEST
less than FULL, it will test untested pages. The OpenVMS group is
working on adding support for partially-tested memory in a future VMS
release. Not sure which one..
