I'm involved in a rollout and we based on different inputs have
implemented SQL and SMS on two separate systems; managing an
environment of about 4k PCs, 400 UNIX systems and many Admin GUIs.
[Two alphas BTW, we were asked to spec large]

What may be of interest to you, is that about a week ago we got to meet
with a person involved in MS's own SMS environment in Europe. They are
using at central and lower levels single server systems. Their heaviest
system would be a Compaq Proliant Dual-Processor Pentium.
