| | John,
did you get those from the Liturgy of the Hours and the Divine Office? There
are many good references in there; unfortunately my Office is at home, and I
am not going to have time to type them in before I go home for Christmas.

| | Genesis 12:1-3 All people on earth will be blessed through Abram's
			descendants
Genesis 49:8-12 Jacob's blessing of Judah, proclaiming that the king
			will come from Judah's line.
Isaiah 11 From Jesse's line - Spirit of the Lord will rest on him.
1 Chron 22:10 King to be of Solomon's line - "He will be my son, and
I will be his father." And I will establish the throne
of his kingdom over Israel forever."
Psalm 22 Crucifiction. "My God, My God, why have you forsaken
me?" "They have pierced my hands and feet."
(crucifiction not invented as a means of torture for
nearly 1000 years after this was written.)
Isaiah 61 Year of the Lord's favor (claimed by Christ in Nazereth
			temple)
Isaiah 53 Through HIS stripes we are healed.
Daniel 2 Nebuchanezzar's dream - in the time of the Iron kingdom
(Rome), God will set up a kingdome that will never be
			destroyed.
That's a start, anyway.

| | This is a neat idea! I think I'll try it with my kids. I'll have one
look up the prophecy and read it, and the other look up the fulfillment
and read it. When we're done with that I'll read the familiar Luke 2
account. Thanks, Karen for the idea.

I spent some time over the last couple of days looking up prophecies
that are directly related to Christmas, i.e. fulfilled in the birth
narratives. Here's what I've come up with:

Seed of a woman Gen. 3:15	Matt 1:18
	Immanuel Isa. 7:14	Matt 1:23
Virgin birth Isa. 7:14	Luke 1:26-27
Born in Bethlehem	Mic. 5:2	Luke 2:4-7
Line of David Isa. 9:7	Luke 3:31
Line of Jesse Isa. 11:1	Luke 3:32
Line of Judah Gen. 49:10	Luke 3:33
Line of Jacob Num. 24:17	Luke 3:34
Son of God Psa. 2:7	Luke 1:32,35

If anyone can find some that I've missed (n.b. I'm limiting the scope
just to those prophecies that are *clearly* related to Jesus *and* that
are fulfilled in the birth narratives) I'd like to hear from you.
    Thanks.
