1924.0. ""Downsize" Alphaserver 1000A 5/333" by MUNICH::CUZUM () Mon Apr 14 1997 11:08
Hi, hardware-wizards,
a very important customer in Romania has got an Alpha Server 1000A
5/333. I understand this servers support dUnix Versions starting with
V3.2f. This server MUST be used by the customer as SWIFT access point,
and SWIFT Alliance certify their software -ONLY- for DIGITAL UNIX 3.2C
and 3.2D. Now our colleague from DIGITAL Romania wants to try to replace
the CPU board (5/333) and downgrade the firmware. He wants to know, if
this should be enough to be able to install V3.2c or if it is necessary to
change the main board, too. I told him, I will submit a notes conference,
but I think such an action is not supported and adviced him to try to
change the the computer with one, supporting V3.2c.
Nevertheless, can anyone answer his question, about what has to be
replaced to be able to install V3.2c?
Regards,
Corina

The AlphaServer 1000 series notes conference is WRKSYS::MIKASA,
not AlphaStation.
But this looks more like a UNIX system-support question, or a
SWIFT support question, best asked of the UNIX folks or the SWIFT
folks. TURRIS::DIGITAL_UNIX. (The UNIX folks will know if you can
downgrade and run, and the SWIFT folks will know when/if you can
upgrade and run.)
