| 1650.1 | Big Lake ! | SENIOR::PENNING |  | Thu Jul 18 1991 11:38 | 12 |

    My district manager owns a house on Webster lake and he said his
    buddy caught a 8 1/2# large mouth there last week! He also said
    some kid on a jet ski hit a 44 1/2 inch PIKE- it weighed 26 lbs.
    The lake is HUGE- 1270 acres! With that size lake, anywhere the
    boaters are not would probably be good. There are all kinds of
    speed boats on this lake and traffic is heavy on the weekends.

    Good luck,

    Wildman

    YUP !!

        .1   Sum's it up.

               If you put in at the public beach, to the left (toward
           rt.16) is a lot of stumps and pads in the coves. I would tend
           to think some of the lunkers are in that area. The open water
           is like the Boston at rush hour on the weekends so mid-week is
           my advice. Good luck and let us know how you make out.

| 1650.3 | good lake but too many powerboaters | DELNI::OTA |  | Fri Jul 19 1991 09:37 | 14 |
| | My only advise is stay off that lake on the weekends or after working
    hours.

    There are so many powerboaters, jet skiers, complete jerks that fishing
    it on the weekend is dangerous.

    They start waterskiing around 6 AM which tells you how crowded it
    gets.

    We even went into these little coves and holes only to have idiots on
    Jet skii's blast through.

| 1650.4 | Small ponds not necessarily small fish.. | DELNI::JMCDONOUGH |  | Fri Jul 19 1991 12:11 | 13 |
| | I also have friends that live there, and the skinny on the lake is:
    **Tough to fish...'bout like Quabbin, cause it's so big it'd take you
    years to scope it out.
    **Lots of fish, but it's also very clear water, so they cna see you
    before you see where they are..
    **Not bad fishing from ice-out until about May 10th or so..that's when
    the idiots and their 600hp outboards materialize from under whatever
    rock they've spent the winter...at that time it's best to find a small,
    10 acre, very stumpy pond..

      There have been some big old Bass caught out of Webster though...

| | I lived on webster last year while I was building a house.
I also fished (and won) a night tournament there last weekend. Fishing
is great!! The boats are not as bad as people say. The only jerks early
in the morning are a few skiers and the dam bass fisherman :^). This lake
must have a tournament every weekend. and th elocals hate it.
flame on
 but it is ok fo rthe A** with the twin 200s to buzz around all day
flame off.
There are many bars and rock piles that are 4' feet or less out of the
water. Could be right in the middle of the lake. The only place that is
on the lake that rents, well two places. Webster lake Marina rents
party boats and indian ranch campground rents paddle boats.
Fish: L bass S bass Pike and trout. are the game fish. The water was 82
on saturday and the fish are deep. The smallies came up on the bars
and large mouths were clsoe to shore after the boats died down around
11:00 pm.
	So fish it early or late. Oh access to the lake sucks too. One
small state ramp and if you don't get in the lot, the town tickets your
car and trailer. The Town ramp cost BIG $$$ if you don't live in town.
Good luck Bassin Bob'
Oh my guide service is cheap and could take you out if you really
have to fish this lake. call me.
