| For $9 you can easily buy two good lures. As far as crankbaits, I
like either a Shad Rap (Rapalla) a C.C. Shad, or a jointed Rapalla or
Rebel. If you want to do some top water fishing the Crazy Crawler, Hula
Popper, Jitterbug, Zara Spook, and the Bomber are all good choices. Some
of the later may be a little more expensive but still way under $9 a
piece.
I don't do any Pike fishing so I can't comment about it.

| I'd try BIG chartreuse spinnerbaits with chartreuse blades, or big
Rapala's for pike. Call 1-800-BASS PRO for a catalog that has

| Gary,
Regarding static dead baits for Pike. I believe that's one method
used for them in the Winter through the ice. I don't think its as
popular in open water fishing.

| I was born 'n raised in an area that I still consider the beat in
the USA for Northern Pike....the upper midwest(Minnesota specifically).
The NUMBER 1 Pike lure in my opinion is the "Daredevil" series of
spoons. Daredevils come in various sizes and colors---they even came
out with a special set this last year that has the U.S. flag on one
spoon and the Canadian flag on the other.
I think the most productive of all of these lures is the
red-and-white and the black-and-white striped ones though....painted on
the one side and either bright silver or copper on the concave side.
the size depends on the size tackle you intend to hook it too
though...I've seen them as small as a half-inch up to a slab that
looked like it would require ocean gear to handle it. My favorite
was about 3" (excluding the treble hook attached to the end) and
I used it on 25 pound line with a bait casting rod. Pike in the
Mississippi and the Minnesota lakes can easily get over 40
pounds...and since they have nasty teeth, a steel leader was a must...
The lure itself was a wobbler due to the shape of the spoon..

The previous note is the truth! If pike is what you want use a
Daredevle. It has been the most reliable way of catching these ugly
fish for me.
A second choice would be a spinner, I hooked some good ones running
them fast over the top of weedbeds.
