My brother and I are journeying to Vermont's NEK the second
week of May in hopes of exercising the local trout population.
Along with taking the flyrods out on some of the smaller streams and
ponds in search of brookies, we plan on spending a day on Lake
Willoughby in pursuit of Lakers and Landlocks.

         My questions are as follows:

    (1) Given that the boat we have access to is not all "tricked out"
with outriggers and fish finders, do we stand a chance of success
trolling up near the surface? Water temperature in the Lake as of
Saturday, April 27th, stood at 41 degrees farenheit, if that helps.
At what depths would you expect to find fish at this time of year.

    (2) Is anyone out there familiar with Lake Willoughby? If so, what
techniques or areas of the Lake have proven to be successful?

Thanks in advance for any information. As one can tell from these
questions, trolling on big, cold water lakes isn't one of my areas of
    expertise!

| Speaking generally: Troll the shorelines, troll slow, try to stay
in about 25ft of water. Don't expect to do well in the middle of
the lake over deep water. Find where rivers dump into the lake and
troll that area. Lure choices: Rapala's, Mooselook Wooblers, Streamer
flies. Ask at a tackle shop near the lake to see what the fish are
hitting. The fish should generally be in the top 20 ft - very near the
    surface.

                          Catch many,
