| 1522.1 | get the big 10 in.... | MEMV01::WOOD |  | Tue Dec 18 1990 10:49 | 7 |
| | I think the difference is a few seconds extra per hole to
    use a 10 over an 8. When your use to doing it by hand, it
    really is insignificant...I like the 10 myself...you know,
    for that once in a lifetime 20lb pike that's going to need
    the extra space to fit through! :-)

| | You may want to think about how your going to move your
    auger around. I fish a lot of small out of the way ponds
    that I have to carry the auger in to. I sold my regular
    Jiffy last year and bought a Jiffy Lite with a 6" blade.
    If your not going for that 20 pound pike, I'd highly
    recommend it. If the extra weight is of no concern and
    you think you'll be fishing for monsters, got for the 10".

    Gaff,
    	would you know what the difference in weight is between an eight
    inch and ten inch blade ? I'm definitely not interested in a six.
    Thanks

    Jim, What model # was that for $239? Is it the full size unit with the
    3hp motor? or is it the lite? If its the full size unit, thats a great
    price. Are they located in the new sports shop?

    Neal,
    	I'm not sure cause I never knew what a lite model was until it
    was spoken about here. I thought that it was a 2.5 hp motor if that
    means anything. They have it hanging up on the ceiling so I couldn't
    get all the details. I'm going to Vic's tackle store in Fitchburg
    tonight to see what Butch has. If it's not any better, I'm buying Spag's
    tomorrow.

| | Well, I've looked in different stores and Spag's has the best price.
    I may go with the store in Fitchburg however, for despite being $10.00
    more, it's assembled and Spag's you have to assemble yourself.
    Also, I think I'm gonna get the eight inch auger. The blades are
    interchangeable so if eight doesn't fit my needs, for twenty bucks more
    I can get a ten inch and I'll have two blades.
    Tomorrow is going to hit sixty degrees. It's really hard to go out and
    spend $230 on something you may not get to use.

| 1522.7 | I'll save you five$$$ | HDSRUS::NEAL |  | Fri Dec 21 1990 11:52 | 13 |
|  |     Jim,
    	Fist the important thing. For $5 I'll assemble it in the parking
    lot. All you have to do is attach the auger to the power head. That
    is easy enough its only one allen head set screw.
    	The other thing, you lost me on the interchangeable blades. Are you
    saying that you can pick up an entire bit for $20? If so where? If you
    are just switching the blade, I am not sure it will work properly. The
    auger has to match the hole size being cut in order to drag the chips
    out of the hole.

    Sorry for being late on my reply. I was on vacation.
    Well, as things often turn out, I didn't buy an auger. Money went towards
    my son's new electric guitar for Xmas. Funny how the schools have the
    Xmas concerts with enough time before Xmas, for parents to run out and
    buy a new instrument. -:) I'll be using my hand auger until the
    cash comes back. The ice don't look like it's gonna be thick anyway, if
    we get anything safe at all.
    As far as changing the blades well, the guy in the shop said it, so I
    believed it cause the difference in price between the 8" and 10" is $20
    so it made sense to me.

| 1522.9 | I think this is how it works | JUPITR::NEAL |  | Fri Jan 04 1991 07:43 | 8 |
| | Jim, I think the blade is about $12, and the whole bit is $65. The
    $20 dollar difference is exactly that. The 8" bit $65, 10" bit $85,
    net difference = $20 if you get my drift.
    I have a 8" bit now, but if I saw the 10" at a "great" price I might be
    tempted. Thats why I was so interested.

    Rich,
         sounds right. Anyway, I'm still working on getting the 10" down
    at Spag's. Just gotta convince myself that after I spend $250, the ice
    won't melt away.

| 1522.11 | Mine is 9".... | DELNI::S_KENNEY |  | Mon Feb 04 1991 15:51 | 11 |
| | Believe or not I my drill is a 9 inch one. "Jiffy" I got mine about
    2 years ago and still haven't tried it! This year, I don't trust the
    ice to much anyway. I got mine up at Bower's in Troy, N.H. for around
    the same price. $230.00 as I remember. I'll have to measure that diam.
    to make sure. He had 8's and one 10" at the time. But I took the 9".
    That's because I couldn't decide between the 8 or 10. As far as Vic's
    in Fitchburg go! I don't trust Butch at all. I haven't traded with
    him in a 2 to 3 years now....I don't even go to him for bait! If you
    want to hear the story. Send mail to me. And I'll tell you why?

    Steve....
