       I had the "lucky" experience of fishing Colorado a few years ago-
    all most ten, and I caught the biggest brown trout I have ever seen.
    We where fishing a lake located at the bottom of Aspen. The outside
    temp was around 90+ degrees and the water temp was a bone chilling
    50 degrees. This was during the forth of july weekend. We were
    consistantly catching rainbows at dusk and dawn from a small boat
    along the shore in weedy coves. We had a pool going to see who could
    catch the biggest fish. On the last day the biggest entry was a rainbow
    about 18". Until we decided to take a cruise to the other side of the
    lake. I, for some reason, being 15 and not knowing any better, decided
    to leave my rooster tail hanging over the side of the boat about 60
    feet out. Well to my surprise, I thought I caught the bottom, my rod bent
    in half and I could not budge it. Then the "snag" started to head
    towards the boat. Well after fighting this fish and praying to GOD that
    I didn't lose him, I brought in a 29" 7LB+ german brown trout!
    If I only knew what I know now I would have spent more time in the deep
    water, than on the shores.
    All in All I will never forget the look on my 7 year old cousins face
    when he hopped into the boat and seen that Monster laying there.
    I did win the pool and I would love to fish that lake again.

    I do a lot of fishing here in Colorado, I haven't caught anything that
    I would be proud to have on my wall, but I do catch some pretty nice
    fish. The best fishing I have found is at spinny mountain res. That is
    if you like to catch and release, because I havent caught anything I
    could keep.  But I love to catch 15 - 18 inch fish almost all day long.
    I have seen some keepers come out, MAN they sure were HOGS. I also go
    to eleven mile for my night fishing, which is good in the early fall.

I guess not many CX folks are fishing, or they are too busy to
enter their results. 

I will try and trigger some activity here.

Went up to Rampart last weekend and had a great day. It was sunny and
warm, thought the wind kicked up a little. Not even the fish bothered
me though. I threw out everything I had and never got a nibble.
Got a nice tan and really enjoyed the day though. Like I have read;

      "A bad day fishing, beats a good day at work, anytime"

How about the rest of you Colorado fisherpersons? Just cause Wayne
is on a permanent fishing trip shouldn't keep you all from entering
you successes, or lack there of.

	I just had three great days fish'n.  My fishing partner, Moose,
	and I went up to Turquoise Lake Friday.  We caught salmon, 
	rainbows, and macks.  We caught them all day long, only kept
	enough for breakfast for Saturday.  Grilled them by the lakes
	edge while we continued to catch and release more.  After
	breakfast we went over to Twin Lakes.  It took a lap around the 
	lake before we found the hot spot.  Once we got into them, we
	were netting 'bows and macks sometimes two poles at a time.  Kept
	enough of them for a meal and then headed to Antero Res. for the
	night and to fish Sunday.  Up at 5 and on the lake, I had the first
	german brown, then Moose had one.  They were rolling up all over the 
	lake.  There was a hatch going on and fish were jumping all over
	the place.  We hooked up with about 20 'bows and were only able to
	net 10 of them.  All nice and fat, and full of power.  Most all
	were in the air either throwing the hook or trying.  These last
	three days of good fish'n make up for the last two real bad weeks
	of work.

    So far this year we have had two very good fishing trips.
    
    The first was at Skagway Res. about 1.5 hours from Colorado Springs.
    The first night I put on a Royal Coachman fly and bubble and had a hit
    on EVERY cast, fought one in on 70% of the casts, and landed on about
    40% of the time. The rainbow stopped biting flies the next morning but
    started biting on yellow power bait. My companion and I had out two
    rods a piece but had to revert to just one rod apiece as the action was
    constant.
    
    Next trip was at Blue Mesa. Gordon, the bite for kokanee wasn't as
    heavy as when you were there early July but still okay. The boat
    averaged around 20 a day at best with half being too small. They seemed
    to be hitting on orange and green in the needle fish type lures and
    down deep with lead core. To my surprise, we even caught some browns
    while trolling for koks. The browns seemed to hit only on chartruese
    colors. Hmmmm.
    
    The trout fishing at the inlet was outstanding. There we floated air
    injected worms a few inches off the bottom and three of us limited out
    in two hours. Fly fishing in the evening at the inlet was great also.
    
    Boy did I hate having to come back. However, its off to Nee Noshe out
    by Eads in a couple weeks to chase HORN POUT (!?). I loves them
    catsfish.

    Hey, Stack. Spinney IS a very good place to catch big stuff. In fact,
    the largest one I've ever caught was from there. It was a 24" brown
    weighting in around 5.5 pounds. The big guy hit a number 2 silver mepps
    trolled in 8 foot of water. As a side note, Stack, the browns coming
    out of Spinney this year are long but they are skinny. The game
    department is worrried something is wrong in the lake. All the other
    fish seem to be healthy.
    
    You said Eleven Mile is a good place to night fish in the fall. What
    location or locations on the shore line provide the best results? What
    type of bait does one need?  Have you ice fished 11 mile? Where did you
    find the best luck then? Have you ever snagged salmon there? If so what
    results did you have? I've never done any of that my self.

    Just reactivated this notesfile after being away from the fishing scene
    for awhile.
    
    My question for you Colorado fisherfolk is..... how's the fishing down
    around the Arkansas river near Cotopaxi, Howard, Texas Creek, etc.
    
    My brother-in-law and I will be heading down that way this weekend to
    do some fishing. We will be camping at one of the RV campgrounds along
    that stretch of US50. We really haven't desided on a place yet, BUT it
    will be somewhere in that area. Where is the fishing the BEST, AND what
    can be caught (Trout I presume)???

    I'm a bit late getting your inquirey on what to catch at the river
    beings you were going this past weekend. Let me quess...you caught
    stocker rainbows and if lucky a brown. Earlier in the season you could
    catch browns a lot due to draining twin lakes but I believe that slowed
    down some. So how did you do?

    Well, unfortunately, my brother-in-law came down with a good case of
    namonia(sp?) and we cancelled our trip... and I thought he was a
    dedicated fisherman... 
    
    SO..., due to this last minute glitch, I ended up taking my 9 year 
    old son up to eleven mile to wet some hooks. Didn't catch a thing.
    We did have a fun day dispite the major scunking. Even my son said,
    "dad, even though we didn't catch any, I had a fun time". WHAT A KID!
    
    I do appreciate the info on the Arkansas river though. Cause when my 
    b-i-l gets "unsick" we plan to get there.
    
    Oh, by the by, what is the best bait to use for fishing the Arkansas?

    OH, I have another question.... is there a REAL GOOD place to catch 
    catfish in this state?
    
    I don't like eating freshwater catfish, BUT I sure like catching and
    releasing them. It is a fun change from the other species of fish
    normally caught.!

     The state record for cats came from Nee Nosho out in the Queens
    recreation area. Thie is near the town of EADS.
    
     Myself and some friend have caught a number of cats in the 3-5 range.
