I know that squids are plentiful in the Woodshole area.
Does anybody knows what time of the year, what time of the day,
and how one can catch them?
Also, what other places can be found?

I too would like to know more about squid fishing. They are not
only good eating but they would also make good tuna bait.
I purchased a couple of squid jigs which are round in cross section
and tapered at both ends. One end has pins sticking out of it. You
just drop these jigs into the school and they attach themselves to it.
There are no barbs on the pins so the squid just drops off when you
bring them on board; you probably loose a lot too. I'll try to sketch
it below.
My major problem is I don't know much about their habits. I've
read that the best way to fish for them is at night with lights shining
on the water. If my memory is correct, the article was discussing fishing
in bays somewhere in the southern Mass area. I've also heard that a fellow
saw a charter boat captain jig them up off shore here in Maine.
I'd love to know more about them because I really like Calamari.

Oh yes. I love to eat calamari too, this is one of the reasons I like
to fish for them.
Once, while fishing of shore of Glaucester, we cought a few stray
squids. I did not throw them back into the sea. Instead, I fried them
the same night. What a surprise! I love lobster, but these squids were
ten times better than lobster meat! So sweet taste!. If they are
frozen, or if not as fresh, I guess, the sweetness is not there!
Yes, I have heart also about the night fishing with a light, but I do
not know the particular details.

While stationed in Kittery Shipyard I would see large schools of
Squid swimming? Swooshing! By the Boat at night. They are attracted
by lights shining on the water. If I recall corectly they were in
the Piscataqua river in early fall. I never bothered to try & catch
them as I had not eaten squid until a few years ago.
Boy are they good! Yum!
I have a couple of flo orange squid jigs I bought a few years back,
I''ll give them a try next time I go to Stellwagon. I bet that tieing
a caylume light stick to the jig will really bring them in.
Another Q? What about Shrimp fishing in N.E.? What kind of net do
you use and where/ when do you go for them?

This past weekend, the bluefish in Nantucket sound were full of squid.
The only place I've had luck catching them was on the boatdock in Edgartown
harbor on the vineyard.

I have caught many squid while jigging for mackeral on the Capt George
out of Plum Island. They go after the small mackeral jig. It's been
several years and I don't know if they still catch squid, but you might
try calling them. I think the name of the outfit is Captain's Fishing
Parties on Plum Island (or Newburyport).
