Well Gi'day Larry,
Where ya been. Can't say I remember this Jason Lucas fellow in
any of the magazines that I have read. Done any good BASSIN' lately
or is the wife still out-fishin' ya....

| Jason Lucas was the Inventor of modern fishing as we know it today...
he wrote for over 25 yrs (I'm not real sure) for Field and Stream as
the fishing editor of that magazine....
Back in 30's and 40's he and Buck Perry (of Spoonbill Fame) who wrote
and still does for Fishing, were in a constant running battle on what
was the best way to fish for Bass (among others). Buck was and still is
the advocate of trolling lures at different depths, while Jason was the
ardent apostle of rod, reel and casting.....he probably did more to help
the cause of rod, real and "artificial" lure fishing than anyother man
in the history of fishing....
He died in the late 60's I believe. Somebody could correct me on that.
You can still read many of his articles in re-prints of them in F&S or
get and read the originals at most public librarys....
Very interesting man.......and the battle over his technques and
Perry's still goes on today...but for all intents and purposes Lucas
won a long time ago and I think that even Perry has changed the way he
writes about fishing to acknowledge this...

| I kinda think Lucas wrote for "Sports Afield". At any rate, he
wrote a classic book (which I own, and re-read constantly) called
"Lucas on Bass Fishing".
He was a pioneer on the big reservoirs out West, and fished with
some really difficult equipment - old "skish" baitcasters with no
level wind, and 6' bamboo bait casters. I'm pretty certain about
"Sports Afield", since A.J. McClane was Field and Stream's Fishing
Editor at the time. Anyone ever read Robert Page Lincoln?

| Yo,
The Skoal Bandit is right. Mr. Lucas wrote for Sports Afied
as their fishing editor for years. One of the best ways he wrote
of to catch BIG bass that I can remember was; Get a LARGE plain
single spinner, not the Mepps type but a plain (no body jobbie)
one with a BIG blade. Jason said the blade should be the size of
a silver dollar or at least a fifty cent piece. Put a large piece
of plain pork rind on the single large hook and a clamp on sinker
about a foot up the line. Troll this rig around the weedline
(drop-off) of your favorite bass lake and hold onto your hat. He
also said you should troll this combo quite slow so that a big 'ol
bass would have time to find it, follow it, and catch the scent
of the pickled pig. He backed this up with very impressive records
of lots of large black bass.

BASSIN BOB,
I truly understand your concern over this "infringement" issue.
As you may remember, The "TBDW" moniker was violated sometime last
year. I believe I have the name of the attorney that I held on
retainer. Thankfully this person ceased thier actions and his retainer
wasn't activated. If this unfortunate situation cannot be settled
to your satisfaction and should you need a very competant council,
please let me know.

Bob,
I've been useing Bassin' since before the magazine came out and
Fishin' since 1976. However if U feel that strong about it, it's
yours. :-)
Thanks 4 the input fellas. I've been wondering how many noters
of this file are over thirty or so and I guess I have most of my
answer now.
