    I was down at Dave's bait shop in Leominster last night. Gate 43
    will be open. They had to extend the ramp with gravel. Don't know
    if you'll need four wheel drive to use it. 
    
        Opening date is April 15.

     Hi Ken,  How's everything in Vermont ?
    
     Not Florida....Heading to Winnipesaukee for the Winni Derby and
    going to the Connecticut Lakes area for a week. Also I'll get some
    fishing in at Quabbin and some of the local lakes and ponds.

    RE:-1 Did you guys ever get back to the Deerfield again?  Good luck
    at the derby.  Opening day up here is the 8th, that is if you like
    fishing in MUD.

        I recently caught the end of a rebuttal on one of the local
      television networks. It was a rebuttal on a water resources bill
    that is going to the legistlature. The bill was a watershed protection
    bill.
    
        The bill called for the end to all boating, power and row, on
    the Quabbin and on the Wachusett Resevoir.
    
        I have never fished in the area, so I do not know what is legal
    in the water now on these bodies of water. But it sounds like there
    is an interest group out there trying to close off all water activities
    out there.
    
        Just thought I'd pass this along....

    I called the Quabbin Visitors Bureau today.  They said that 
    Gates 8 & 43 will be open to boaters, beginning this Saturday
    (April 15).  Good luck and see ya there.

          I shop at Dave's also. He is great guy and I think I have
    him talked into taking me up to Onterio this Sep. to catch one of
    those monster Rainbows he is famous for.
    
      As for gate 31 one being closed, it has nothing to do with the
    low waterlevels, but rather the National Bird! I guess a bald Eagle
    has made her nest real close to gate 31 and she has laid a couple
    of eggs. They are trying to keep people as far away from there as
    possible so that the eggs may hatch and we can enjoy the awesome
    eagle catching the trout we cant.

    I saw an adult bald eagle yesterday at the Quabbin.  What a sight!
    Now that I know thw story behind the story as to why gate 2 is closed,
    I feel a little better.  MDC police still at gate 3, but no longer
    checking coolers, just sitting in their 4x4 staying warm  :*). 
    We got one nice 19 1/2" salmon, fat and healthy too.

    ..REF .10....Saturday We fished out of fishing area #3 and took
    four lakers on the same rod......but in two outing can't even buy
    a salmon on the other three rods. I thought it was the cold temp.
    or size of the waves....seem your dooing something very right.
    ..........  care to send me mail and advise me.....? please..
      fishing high or low, type of bait or streamer......I'm headed
    there after the weather pattern changes...
    As for the Eagles we saw two adults and a number of young...with
    the wind saturday it was quite a sight to see the young learning
    to soar. Between thermals and strong up drafts these big birds didn't
    even need to bat their wings....last year i saw and adult bird
    take a salmon out of the water about 30 yards from the boat. I'll
    never forget it ....it seemed time stood still...and the action
    of the bird was in slow motion...it makes mee feel good just thinking
    about it....
      The MDC legal beagels were out opening coolers Saturday and checking
    registry stickers.......Two buddies on there first trip the area
    #3 had to give up two sixpack of BUDS.....Another car load lost
    more....no one got written up for boose...
    The MDC had me by the short h--r.....the truck sticker for Mass. reg.
    needed to be renewed in March. I explained that i had simply forgot
    since I had just finnished the body work and painted the truck...any
    way he let me off with a warning....They got a vote of appreciation
    from me....                          
       Any one going out of area 3 heading for the "GAP" should watch
    out for the channel markers and stumps....I was real carefull and
    still got a new nick in the prop.....well, see ya there...KEN  
          All in all a real good day.....

    It was opened last Saturday.  Didn't look like they were renting boats
    though.... Just launching... Louis
