| | I just noticed something, "Carolinia" should be Carolina. I didn't want
any one to think that I was illiterate, I just can't spell!!!!!!

Don't know if they will help or laugh you out of the store ... there
was a Bass Pro shop at the Greenville Mall the last time I passed
through Greenville ( 2-3 years ago ). I think you may have to head
north a state or two to find trout (NC or Tenn). There are a couple
of state parks along the north SC border with streams that would
have looked "trouty" to me if the weather wasn't so danged HOT.

    Good Luck,
    Steve

| | Thanks guys, I will stop by the local tackle shop and ask around,
I was just hoping that one of the local "DEC-ies" could give me some
inside info. (you know how reluctant some guys are about giving out the
"good" spots to strangers.) I'm really looking for a nice trout
stream with a healthy population of natives. ( I love the challenge !)

Steve (re.3). You are right, there are some excellent spots in TN
and NC. Speaking of native trout and Tn, I went to school
in Chattanooga, Tn and we would go up to the upper end of
Hawassi river. The Hawassi is fed by a huge generator which
is funneled from a lake. When the demand for power is
low (ie. Between 12:00am - ~10:00am) the river is converted
into a series of small stream which hold a healthy population
of natives. We would take them on nymphs and sometime on
cloudy days you could tie on a hook and use "NIGHTCRAWLER(s)"
and catch big brown trout (19-20 in.,2-3 Lbs). The meat would
be a light blush (pink) EXCELLENT with real butter , lightly
salted and peppered, wrapped in aluminum foil and place in
hot coals. Just thinking about it make my stomach growl!

I will let you know how it goes within the next few weeks.

                                                Thanks Again,
                                                   John

Ps. (Nightcrawler) > Carolinia is next to California right?
like I said I'm new and don't know the area but when I goto
the bait shop I'll be sure to ask for you!

| | I was raised in Anderson, SC, and spent some of my recreation time in
the mountains near the GA, SC, and NC border. The Chattooga River
defines the border line. If you want to get away from civilization,
that is the place! There are brookies, and I believe both rainbow
and brown (it has been a long time), depending on the section of
river. If you want to try it, buy a topographical map and look
for roads down to the river.

Other rivers in your area that were good in the early 70's were
    the Chauga and the Saluda.

If you just want BIG fish, investigate the tailwaters below some
of the resevoirs. The only one I have firsthand knowledge is just
downstream of Hartwell Dam. You can get in the area by taking Route
29 between Anderson and Hartwell. Again, a good map (recommend
a topo) is useful in finding the best access. Just be warned that
you had better know the signals they give before releasing water.
In this case, ignorance can kill you.

The really nice thing about trout fishing in SC is that there really
is not much competition for the areas. Most of the serious fisherman
    are after bass.

    Good fishing.

    Bill

| | Pete, as I mentioned in .8, I was down there awhile back, but I did not
get a chance to do any fishing. I was in Charlotte. Lake Murray is
right on the outskirts of Charlotte is looks like a real nice (big)
    lake.

It sounds like your a member of BASS, so I'd recommend contacting their
membership services dept. They'll probably provide a fair amount of info
on the area you are interested in - and they'll definitely give you all
the info on the local clubs belonging to the SC BASS Federation.

I'd be interested in hearing any info on Lake Murray...

| 759.11 | info needed on sc fishing | DNEAST::VORHIS_AL |  | Tue Mar 13 1990 10:32 | 26 |
| | I am thinking about relocating to the Greenville area and thought that
I would see if I couldn't generate a little information from this note
. In my trips there so far it seems as though the prime lakes are
Hartwell, and Jocassee . Hartwell is large 75k acres.

I am a Bass fisherman and have a bassboat , I am interested in the
general conditions and the availability of tournaments etc . I did
spend some time in several sport shops two weeks ago and got a lot of
good info (they had a 15+ lb LM on the wall that came from Hartwell
Lake , this sold me on the move)

Hartwell is an impoundment of a river by Duke power , they also have a
pretty good fishery for stripers in several of the lakes in the area .

I was told that the GSO plant had some type of fishinf league or
something last year ,any info on that would also be appreciated .

Bottom line is that any information either via phone or net would be
appreciated very much . Being as interested as I am this info bears
    heavily on my decision .

    thanks ,
