    IT JUST SO HAPPENS I GREW UP IN MOOSUP. WHICH CAMPGROUND ARE TALKING
    ABOUT? THE LARGEST FISH HATCHERY EAST OF THE MISSISSIPPI IS LOCATED
    THERE. IT DEPENDS HOW FAR DOWN STREAM YOU ARE. THE MOOSUP RIVER
    MEETS WITH THE QUIENBAUG RIGHT THERE AND FOR ABOUT 2 MILES UP STREAM
    IS FLY FISHING ONLY I WAS THERE LAST YEAR IN AUGUST THERE WAS HARDLY
    ANY WATER BUT I STILL MANAGED TO NET A COUPLE OF 2 POUNDERS. THERE
    THERE ARE ALL KINDS OF STREAMS WITHIN A FIFTEEN MILE RADIUS OF MOOSUP.
    BLACKWELL BROOK, SNAKE MEADOW, LITTLE RIVER ARE SOME OF THE BETTER
    ONES. GET BACK TO ME AND LET ME KNOW EXACTLY WHERE YOU ARE GOING
    TO BE. I ONLY WISH I COULD FISH THERE IN MAY. 
     
      THE MOOSUP RIVER IS STOCKED LIKE I SAID BUT THESE OTHER STREAMS
    ARE PROBALLY BETTER. HOWEVER TROUT UP TO 6 POUNDS HAVE BEEN CAUGHT
    IN THE MOOSUP.
    

    River Bend campground in Oneco, CT. right off 14-A. Are you talking
    about the Quinnebaug fish hatchery? That's up 395 a few exits, not
    far at all. I've have also noticed many other streams around, Cedar
    Swamp brook was one of them, probably good for just brookies.
    Do you know of any others in the area? You must know where River
    Bend campground is, right?

    yes i was talking about the quennebaug hatchery its just down the
    road from oneco. if memory serves me correct river bend campground
    is above a dam and the water moves very slowly there. more suited
    for cats and bass. those 3 streams i mentioned earlier are well
    worth checking out and are all very close. the moosup south of the
    route 12 bridge down to the quiennebaug river is excellent fishing
    also. there is also a stream called quanduck in sterling also excellent
    trout fishing. all these streams have brooks browns and rainbows.
    if you have a boat try above the waregan dam on the quiennebaug
    river. i misspelled quanduck and waregan but that is how they 
    are pronouced. damm indian names!

    I'm new to DEC,NOTES,and CONNECTICUT FISHING. I live in S.Killingly,CT
    and have been there about 1.5 yrs. I have not had an opportunity
    to do any fishing yet but I am determined to drop in a few lines
    this season.The problem is I do not know the area at all.I do 
    recognize a few names of some rivers which were mentioned in note
    .2. In fact I,m on Snake Meadow Road just a stones throw from moosup.
    I,m hoping some one could tell me where I could locate a good detailed
    map of the area,also where I have to go to get a license and the
    cost.I would appreciate the names of any more streames,rivers,lakes,
    etc. in the area which would be good fishing. I have referenced
    the Norwich Bulletin articles but the northeast corner of the state
    seems to be forgotten about.

Dave,
	You get your CT fishing license from your town clerk and the
cost for a resident is $9 (fishing only) or $12 (fishing & small game).
As for where to go, the 60 page booklet you get when you buy your license
has lots of places listed where fish are stocked, or there are special
restrictions.
	One of the things Ct. does that I think is GREAT is they have some
areas where the fishing is restricted to kids under 16.

    Welcome Dave,
    
    Aside from some great fishing spots in your part of CT, you should
    look to the east just over the RI border.  Check out Carbunckle
    Pond in Foster for landlocked salmon (up to 10 lbs.) and nice
    trout; for BASS try Bowdish Reservoir on RT 44 in West Glocester.
    Both lakes should  only be about 15 to 20 min from the Killingly
    Moosup area.
    
    Good luck, you have a good variety of fishing spots within a half
    hour  drive.

    Well, thanks to this notes file I got off my tail and inquired 
    around town about getting a license and finally bought one today.
    Al,you were right about the whole process. thanks! I'm impressed
    with the anglers guide I received with the license not only does
    it list the names of rivers,lakes,etc. it also lists the seasons
    and most important to me the location of each.Sure makes things
    alot easier.I was surprised that town hall did not have any maps
    of the area at all. I'm sure I'll be able to find all the places
    I need to have a good time. My son is real anxious to get out there
    with me.He's only 5 yrs.old so I think those special spots just
    for kids under 16 would be ideal for him. Too bad for dad.
     I have a question for Gary.  Would I need to purchase an out of
    state license from RI to fish carbunckle pond and the bowdish
    reservoir?  Again, thanks for the help!!
                                            
               I'll be out there this weekend ready to reel them in.

    Yes, you'll need a non-resident license.  Carbunkle Pond can be
    fished anywhere from shore or with a small boat w/electric motor
    NO GAS ENGINES.  Bowdish Res should have a public launch and
    may be 10HP max.  Not sure of any public areas to fish from shore.
