Mike,
I will look them up for you when I get home today if you wish.
Where exactly off of Plymouth are you looking for. Do you plan
on going into the harbor? Do you have a chart of Cape Cod Bay?

| | All the current charts show the loran lines for the area covered
by the chart. You can interpolate resonably well but don't bet
your boat on those readings, they are only as accurate as your
    attempt to read the chart.

Make sure you know which repeaters your unit will read for the area
    you are boating in.

| 658.3 | Chart LOPs ?????? | CIMNET::CREASER | SUPER STRING | Wed Apr 06 1988 11:41 | 16 |
| | Another point on the LOPs on charts! Every LORAN user should know
that the LOPs printed on most charts were determined by calculation
not by "real" field data. Although NOA is revising the LOPs there
are still many times when the chart and or your LORAN LOPs will
not agree with the live station signals.

If very close positioning info is required to keep you off the rocks
or other nastyness then use know and repeatable TDs. Don't depend
    on the charts!

In some areas it can be helpful to "fix" your position with coastal
land marks and then compare with the LORAN LOPs. DO NOT use buoys
and such unless you positive about their position.

| | GOOD ADVICE .3, THESE UNITS CAN BE DEADLY ACCURATE IF YOU SAVE THE
LOCATIONS AS YOU GO OVER THEM. MOST UNITS MAKE IT VERY EASY TO
SAVE THE POINTS REAL TIME, YOU CAN READ THEM OUT LATER TO MAKE A
LOG. THE LOG SHOULD BE MADE IN CASE YOUR SYSTEM LOSES MEMORY.

IF YOU FEED BACK IN THE SAME POINTS THE UNIT SHOULD BE REPEATABLE
TO THE LIMITS OF ITT ACCURACY.

It sure is hard to believe that six(6) days pass along and no one
will post any numbers! I guess they must be secret. Maybe some of
those fishermen(whoops-fisherpersons-sorry JEANNE) don't know the
spots after all.( Just notes talk) ?

| | I think the problem here is that not to many of us fish the same
area's. I have some numbers for the North Shore (inshore) but except
for Joe I don't know anyone else these might be useful to. When
I start running out to Jeffries and Stellewagon and find some
productive spots I will post those since there are a couple of people
    that fish those areas.

| | BRUCE,
You hit it right on the head and that is why we should use this file.
Because someday anyone one of us may just want to go somewhere new
and the numbers could really make the difference between wasting
several hours of running or getting a hook-up.
I really thought some of those guys a little south of us that talk
about Jersey and Long Island ,Rhode Island etc may have something
positive to offer but maybe they really don't go fishing just talk
about it. Just think if the numbers are here all we have to do is
plug them in and like magic the distance and time to arrival for
    a given speed is automatic.

| | Before we judge people on their use or non-use of this loran number
note, I think we should consider:

    -	Some people may not have a loran or chose to use it for finding
that special piece of bottom. (not me, I have numbers for everything)

    - Some people have a problem remembering the little things in
life. (I have a hard time remembering the numbers long enough
to write them down, but also trying to bring these #'s in to
    	work at	6:00 AM.)

    - It could be that many people have real hot spots that thay don't
want to share with anyone else. (I will confess to this one,
I do have one spot that I won't share, it is the only place
that I can catch any large cod, large= over 50 lbs. )

So I'll start entering numbers for ledges of the NH/Mass coast,
but the easy way is to fish on top or and the side of any high
spot that comes up out of deep water. Just look at the chart,
when you see a depth number printed in a flat area, it is some
    type of peak.

| 658.10 | Getting a set of numbers is hard work | TOOK::SWEET | Capt. Codfish...Jeffries Ledge or Bust | Thu Apr 14 1988 08:58 | 10 |
| | I have to agree with steve about finding cod on the sides of hills.
Most of the spots that I have I found myself using a chart and my
paper machine. I will be starting this same process this spring
as I expore the offshore ledges. Once you find a spot you then get
the numbers. I do not have any problem sharing hot spots with other
fisherman because I do not think rod and reel fisherman can really
impact an area of fishing. However I would die before giving up
    numbers to a gill netter!

| | re:10
You brought up a good point about putting hot spots in a public
notes file. You never know if one of the people reading this file
has a friend or relative that is a gill netter.

Just a suggestion but if you really want to share this type
of information it is probably best to use this file to co-ordinate
    a meeting and exchange info over a couple'a brewski's.
    RAYJ

P.S. Almost every avid fisher-person has a honey-hole or two that they
like keep to themselves. I see nothing wrong with that. If you put
in the time and paid your dues then you should reap the benifits.
However, since an objective of this file is the exchange of fishing
information, maybe a honey-hole exchange might be the way to go
(outside of a public file of course).

| | Last weekend was my first experience with LORAN for fishing and
I couldn't believe how much it helped! I fished with a buddy on
Ontario for Salmon. He punched in his favorite honey-hole and off
we went (at 52 mph). A little while later the unit started beeping
at me indicating .2 miles to our spot. We slowed to 2 mph and started
rigging lines. for 45 minutes, we couldn't get all the lines down
due to "Fish on". Honest!! I'd set one downrigger and it would release
befor I could get the next one set. This went on for 45 minutes
    and 6 Salmon!
I'm hooked. Where can I get a good buy on a small (size) LORAN?

| | Hi Folks, I thought I'd try and revive this note again. I realize that
you may have some hot spots you'd like to keep to yourselves. I
recently put a loran on my boat, and have just started my log book.
I'd be willing to trade a few numbers I've collected over the last
month out on Scarlets ledge for some td's on the SW corner at
Stellwagon. If you'd like to do a few trades you can send me mail
    on CADSYS::BROPHY.
