note 69.* from a couple years back, Ron, along with others, offered
    lots of good info there.

Last year I recall doing well well with large white spinnerbaits
early in the year. I think my most productive one had tandem copper
willow blades. Slow rolling them on sunny days in the shallows
seemed to work well. Real early in the year most fish will probably
be in deeper water, but the aggressive (catchable) fish may be feeding
in the sun warmed shallows - close to deeper water.

| | Dear Mr NIGHTCRAWLER~~~~~~~~~ I also love that cold BASS (ALE).

I once had an ALE called Angler's Ale.... English I think.
Oh yes; it does help that cold water fishing. If I ever make
it up north and if you have enough COLD BASS, I'll show you why
    they call me.....................

Here's what's been working for us in early spring:

Fish on warmer days espically before a cold front moves in.

Fish later in the day say 3:30 on. (the time gets earlier as the
    weather gets warmer.)

Fish the north side northeast or northwest doesn't seem to matter.

Always sharpen your hooks, even new ones.

Very early in the season the bass will not always hit; many times
they will mouth the bait to carry away from a nest or perspective
nest site. I have found if you pull lightly they will let go (too
Bad) or try to get a better grip on it (set your hook).

So far this year my partner and I have 7 Bass (only 3 are mine)
His 5 yaer old son also has 1. the biggest being 1 1/2 pounds.
We have caught all of them out of the Assabet and returned them
all. We have fished other favorite holes, but have had no luck and
end up the day by hitting that spot.

I think the bacterial pollution might have something to do with
the early activity in this river. That is as bacterial pollution
decomposes it releases energy in the form of heat. So if you find
a spot with slow moving water on the northern side the temperature
may be warm enough to produce the early action we have been having.

I don't have a thermometer so i can't tell what the water temperature
was. Does anyone know where to pick up one of those thermometers
that captures water from the depth you want so accurate temperature
readings at know depths are possible. I believe they are also used
by environmental / water conservation officers ?

| | THANK YOU .5 FOR THAT INFO. Yes I do know where to get that
thermometor. If you cant find one at your local tackle shop call
me or All & 1 me a memo. They cost about 6 or 7 bucks.
