    Good question, I will check my fisherman for adds, I have seen them
    in the past. I would be interested in finding a way to order a box
    of cod jigs at a reasonable price (ie, less than 10-12 $$ a piece).
    I know of several tackle shops that sell tubing by the foot
    (danversport marine). Also the Bass Pro catalogue has some lead
    heads and their prices on bulk line (Ande, stren ) are the best
    I have found.

     Your best bet would be to consult C. Boyd Pfeiffer's "Tackle Craft".
    He lists the type of outfit you're looking for. Two that come to
    mind are J. Lee Cuddy (Miami), and Gene Bullard (Dallas, I think,
    but I know Pfeiffer lists the addresses). If you're just thinking
    about building a rod, Dale Clemens (Allentown, Pa.) is great, and
    for assorted tackle components Reed Tackle in N.J. is good. Sorry
    about the incomplete addresses, but I'll bet Rich Horwitz (aka "The
    Beach Bagel") can help you. He normally is real active in this file,
    and I think he'll chime in.

    	Good thought. I remembered my old Tacklecraft book after I had
    entered the note. Well anyway, I dug it up and dusted it off and
    found several sources. The book is copywrited in 1974 so I don't
    know if the addresses are still valid. For example the Netcraft
    Co was shown with a different address than that mentioned in <.4>.
    I found my old favorite Midland Tackle among others; some of which
    were already mentioned. The ones I found interesting are as follows.

    Does anyone know of any Rod building classes. I would like to start
    building my own rods and know there are books on the subject but
    having hands on experience seems like the best way to go.

    Paul.. Midland (one of my favorite shopping places) is still very
    much alive and well in Sloatsburg, NY. I suggest contacting him
    soon as he usually starts clearing out discontinued blanks, guides,
    etc. this time of year. (A phone call gets same day mailing of his
    catalog). Of all the components dealers mentioned in the other replies,
    his prices seem to be the best. I also suggest, if time is available,
    you visit his shop in person. Not only do you save the ridiculous
    shipping charges on blanks (length x dia. x 6 ounces = BIG$$$),
    but the selection is much greater than listed in the catalog. (If
    they're not too busy, they do discuss pro's & con's of various items)
    BTW - I'm heading up there in the next few weeks- I promised Dad
    a new rod for Xmas.
    REED tackle is still in business, but on Rt. 46 in Fairfield, NJ.
    His business is now about 80% fly tying, and 98% freshwater. Down
    the road from him is Fairfield Sporting Goods/Newark Sinker. These
    guys used to publish a mail order catalog, but I'm not sure if they
    still do.

    	2 sources for rod building lessons: local tackle shops and (at
    least in NJ) the local 'Adult School' (you know... night school
    courses in going to the theater, how to eat foriegn food, etc.)
    
    	The FISHERMAN has just started a series of articles on rod building
    too. (you can practice as long as you use tape and not glue to hold
    things together.)
    
    

    I have read the first installment in the fisherman and I found there
    were holes is the rod holder design. How does the motor attach to
    the blank to turn it? How may holes do you drill in the midle support
    and for what?? I would have no problems making my own if I could
    see one in person. Anyone have a cabella's catalogue I could borrow??

    I dont have one you can borrow, but if you look in just about any
    fishing/hunting mag. they usualy have an ad for their catalogue.
    Just fill out the form and mail it in.

	I am trying to put together some Tuna handlines this winter and I
would like to know how to make them up. I read the recipe in <152.6>
and it stated 450' of 7/16" pot warp and 50' of 3/16" nylon. When I went 
to order the rope however, the dealer said that 1/4' nylon is the right stuff.
Of course he is into rope, not Tuna, but I wanted to double check anyway 
before I spend money on the wrong stuff. 
	Also when I asked for pot warp, I thought that that would be all 
the description needed. Apparently lobstermen now use several kinds of 
warp, including poly. Could someone enlighten me as to the proper 
description for pot warp?
	Lastly, does anyone know of a reliable source of the materials 
being discussed? I contacted Crowe Rope Co in Warren Maine which was
recommended by a lobstering coop but the person that I talked to did
not give me the feeling that I was likely to get the right material 
for the job. I saw a source in Sandwich Mass in another note about 
lobstering and I may give them a try, but I would also like to find 
something nearer to home (Maine).

    I buy most of my gear in Newington N.H., the place is called 
    NE Fishing Gear. Everybody uses different types of rope for
    lines. I used pot warp for most of this summer, 600 ft and 100 ft
    of ni-gold (sp?) 3/32 for shocker.
    I've switched over to 500 ft of 5/16 ni-gold and the same shocker
    for lines now. This line is softer and weighs less.

    	Thanks for the lead. I called NE Fishing Gear and they sound
    like the kind of place I was looking for... dealing primarily with
    the fishing industry and knowledgeable enough to be helpfull. I
    am planning on stopping there on one of my many trips down south.

    NOT FORWARDABLE". Does anyone know if they are still in business

    I received the Dale Clemens catalogue. It has almost anything you
    need for rod building from fly rods to IGFA Tuna Sticks, including
    Fuji guides and reel seats, Aftco roller guides and reel seats,
    Mildrim guides, and blanks from Fenwick, Sabre, Lamiglass....
        
    It also has fly building materials and lead head jigs.
    
    The prices seem a little high but it gives you a great idea of what
    is available and some ideas as to what you might like to do.

    I realize this is a bit late, but Falmouth tackle in Falmouth has
    just what you are looking for.  I also use the surg tubing for my
    tired diamond jigs (destroyed by those cute little bluefish) and
    they have a variety of sizes and colors. If you are a saltwater
    fan you will find this catalog of some value.  Sorry, I do not have
