Joe this is just an opinion 'cause I haven't spent the money for the
	Hook-Hon-R either, but...
I don't doubt the machine can do a good job of sharpening hooks, I
am a stickler for using sharp hooks. It's going to be a Lo......ng
winter. What better way to spend a howling snow storm than sitting in
the living room or den running a $1.29 whetstone over the hooks on
all your crankbaits, jigs, spinnerbaits, and worm hooks as you dream
of ice-out. To buy one of these machines that zips a sharp hook out
in seconds would deny you all that pleasure...;-) We all know that
half the pleasure of any outdoor experience (hunting, camping, FISHING)
is the preparation and planning. For my money, I'll get $50 worth of
tackle or electronics and enjoy those miserable winter months dreaming.

I normally only sharpen the hooks that i am going to use that day.
i believe if you sharpen all the lures /hooks they will tend to
rust faster. sharpen the ones that you use all the time and i think
that your lures will last longer. just a opion.

    mark.
ps 50$ buys a lot of worms and hooks

| 502.3 | I hate bobber fishing anyway... | SONATA::LANGE | The things I do for money... | Wed Oct 07 1987 09:30 | 16 |
| | A friend of mine's roommate pattened a bobber that when you cast
it out,it hits the water and your line flows through the bobber.
When it touches the bottom,it locks the line in place.
You then reel it in,and say for instance you want to fish 1 foot
off the bottom, you wrap you line around the "spool" shape on the
bobber, tuck your bait in the spot provided, and cast out to the same
    spot you measured from.
when the bobber hits the water, the weight of the bait, turn's the bobber
upside down, thus letting the line go down to your desired 1 foot
    off the bottom type fishing.

This all sounded pretty neat, and lazy, but my question was, suppose
    you're fishing at a depth of 25,'when you get a fish,and you're
reeling in,what happens when the bobber gets to your pole tip,and
there's is 25" of line, with a fish on the end dancing about?

| | Most of the guides up on Lake Ontario use the Luhr Jensen HookHone,
which is a file that comes in several sizes. It's the best I've seen
by far ($3-4) and should be available at Zyla's. Bear in my that the
guides are fanatics on sharp hooks.
On another topic, has anyone seen or used the Daiwa PSS3H (I think
that's the code #) bait caster with 7 to 1 retrieve ratio ? I'm not
much on Daiwa, but this looks like the ultimate crankbait unit, especially
mounted on an 8' steelhead graphite casting rod. You could crank those
 babies under the bottom...

| | Funny you should mention that.
I distinctly remember it like it was yesterday.
I was fishing with my uncle at Wachusetts by the High School on
    70.
I was about 5 yrs old,and caught a white perch. As soon as I could
see he was getting close to shore I ran,and dragged'em up on shore.

    Now I have a canoe,when I get a fish,I just paddle as fast as I
can back to shore draggin'em ;-)

Has anyone got any inputs on the Spiral Graphite rod
that was introduced in 87 from BASS-PRO?? I am thinking
of getting one, but don't know of anybody using it.
Bass-Pro said they haven't got many returns or complaints,
they did tell me to stay away from the Pro-Comp II.

Does anyone use the Spiral Graphite?? I would appreciate any
         info.

| | Someone mentioned the new Diawa 7:1 ratio reel...

These do sound nice. Personally, I'd love one for buzzbaits. I
always find myself crank'n like crazy with buzzbaits on my 5:1...

And (I think these have been brought up also) Quantum has the new
3:1 Crank'n reel, designed for crankbaits. Here's another reel that
would probably help me out, it would MAKE me fish slower... Although
it would make landing a HAWG 50yds off the boat a little more time
    consuming/nerve wracking....

| | re: Hook-Honer
I forgot to mention... Cathy (my wife) being the sweetheart that
she is, let me open a few early gifts last Friday night, knowing
that the following days fishing may be the last of the year.

One of these gifts was the Hook-Honer. I'm really pleased with
it. It does deliver a fine point in 3-4 seconds, without any touble
    at all.
