    Can you explain  HAIR RIGGED BOILIES?

Ahhhh..geez..I love to speculate on this stuff....:^).....Based on my
limited reading of UK fishing mag's and residual childhood knowledge of the fine
art of carp fishing.....I think (speculate) that Hair Rigged Boilies are...
    
Boilies.... Blobs of flavored boiled dough material, somewhat like what I knew
            as a child as dumplings or cornmeal fritter kind of things.
            Flavors are carpish..like cheeze, corn, oatmeal, fishmeal or 
            whatever grossosity you fancy. Likely very close to the
            process  catfish baits you see advertised on TV fishing shows 
            (Whoeee, puts a cravin on em!!!)..

Hair rigged...hummm...maybe Boilies impalled on a hook with a little
           hair collar tyed on. Or maybe just boilies with hair mixed
           in to give a little better staying power on the hook....or
           maybe hairballs covered with boily material and boiled up.     
    
           Strange..you bet!!!!! Cant wait for the real explanation!!!!

    Probably due to the number of times theyve been lunked out of the
    water our Carp are becoming very wary of "traditionally" presented
    baits.
    
    CARPSH*T! I hear you cry but its true.................
    
    Hours of tank testing and extensive observation has proved that
    Carp will generally "suck-n-blow" a bait around and more often than
    not will reject baits that dont either appear or behave * naturally *
    You guys use  floating baits...havent you noticed how readily the
    free offerings are accepted as opposed to the bait with the hook
    in it......(ANNOYIN INIT!)
    
    Anyway to counter these problems there are numerous methods of
    presentation to dupe the Carp into taking our baits and one such
    method is hair rigging
    
    Basically this involves attaching a very fine piece of monofil
    (typically 1-1.5lb B.S.)to the hook.
    Usually this line..(The Hair)..is tied to the bend of the hook
    (although some prefer them to be "Eye Tied"..as in Italy..)
    and the other end tied off to form a loop to assist in securing
    the bait.The actual length of the Hair is very much a matter of
    personal preference but a typical length would be 1-1.5"
    The selected bait/BOILIE is then fixed to the hair using a baiting
    needle(YES! YOU REALLY DO LANCE YOUR BOILIES!!!!!!!)
    
    The baiting needle is exactly that....a needle but with a very fine
    barb on its shaft so, having passed the needle through the bait
    you can bring the loop of the hair back through the bait.A peice
    of grass,twig etc is then put through the loop thus preventing
    the bait flying off during casting.
    
    Well there you have it Ye Olde English Hair Rigge and believe it
    or not it works ............Try it and let me know!
    
    
    ps Quite right...Boilies are blobs of flavoured doughy material.
    The reason they are boiled (hence the name)  is to give them a
    tougher outside coating thus preventing (hopefully!) takes from
    other nuisance fish.
    Boilies are big business over here....there must be hundreds of
    flavours/colours/smells /shapes etc
    
    pps Can you tell me more about these "process catfish baits"?

    good god real fishermen,
    my carp bait is made as follows
    6 eggs
    1lb self r
    2 drops cherry fl
    1 teaspoon of marge
    2 digestive 
    
    blend all together roll into small balls and boil for 15 min
    and catch carp. simple er

    I've only just started started this season.... so I'm still in 
    NOVICE mode..(singles)
      Have been toying with the idea of some winter carping...any
    Experience?

    ive found that a hair bolt rig is good for 99% of my local fishing
    but when thay are finnicy i use a running ledger.
    as for winter fishing i dont have the right keep warm stuff in my
    kit to expensive for me im afraid. but i wouldent mind trying it
    although without the tube of fosters cooling in the lake i dont
    think it will be the same. always get your priorites right.
