| | Perry,
There was a discussion about hovercraft in general in note 165.0
and a little in 303.7. You might look through those topics/replies and
get some ideas and/or names of people with information.

| | perry: they sould like fun too, I would like to see one in action.
A similar type is the scat hovercraft. a nice idea but the bugs
are not yet out: they have a nasty habit of having the props expode
a the most inconvenent times(usually when someone is riding) but
not to worry it is made of fiberglass blades that shatter into very
small shrapnal directly in back of the operator.

The price? $3595 retail, $2,600 Dealer with the purchace of 6 machines.

the rider(note I din't say driver) sits on top of the fuel tank,
but hey! when you gotta go! go big!

also the Scat has full steerage as long as the engine and prop are
fuctioning! Lots of fun when (pick one) 1) you stall. 2) run out
of fuel 3) prop does its thing. 4) all the above.

                                           Have fun! Walt.

| | I saw one of these whatever they are in NH last winter while
snowmobiling. They looked like a lot of fun, but you have to
wear ear protection unless you don't mind going deaf.

| 443.5 | I guess I would rather look than ride... | SQM::FAUCHER |  | Fri Aug 14 1987 22:06 | 13 |
| | That loud huh, I myself would like to see one of these things up
close (but dunno if I would want to ride it ..."on top the gas tank",
    I'll pass, ha ha).

Haven't had a chance to read the other notes that pertain to the
topic yet... hopefully after vacation.... just thought they sounded
"interesting" to say the least... the add didn't even mention the
    noise levels....

| 443.6 | Doesn't have to be loud | VICKI::DODIER |  | Mon Aug 17 1987 09:37 | 12 |
| | Since these things basically use a snowmobile engine, there
is no reason that they have to be any louder than a snowmobile.
Another fact about the hovercraft is fuel efficiency. There
is very little effort required to move an object which is floating
on a cushion of air. There is a planing speed however which is when
the vehicle goes over the small wake it creates in front of it.
This wake is made by the force of the air which lifts the craft
and pushes the water out of the way.
A little pit fall about this craft pertains to the benefit
mentioned above. These things could be difficult to maneuver/control
with a heavy cross wind. That's no big deal though as I'd rather
fish in the rain then to be out in *any* craft on a windy day.
