      Mark,
           I call them fish kivers and I wonder why everyone else calls
    them crap. I agree that the kids enjoy catching them but for me
    tell me where the bass are hitting and I would be interested. I've
    been catching lots of trout up here in N.H. on the pisquatway (sp)?
    river its only a few minutes from my place. I caught one small bass
    and a couple of pikerel on a pond in Salem. What I need now is a
    place to snag some big bass in southern N.H. any replies will be
    apreciated.

    kevin,you might want to try the merrimac river.also ask don macintyre
    i beleive he lives up your way.[ sorry don i didn't think you would
    mind] I heard he was the best bass man up in new hampshire.[i'll
    bet ya he'll love that one] so if you have a hard time reaching
    him i do have his node according to the fishing notes file.
      but like i said in "BLACK CRAPPIE" YOU HAVE TO tackle these fish
    with the proper tackle to enjoy it.they are also excelent eating.

    Ok, it's later... On crappies - Holeshot, RO Rick and myself, were 
    talking about this the other day after everone was catching all the
    calico bass/rock bass/kivers/crappies at Monomonac.  As EVERYONE who
    fished the DEC Bass tourny can say, Monomonac is the rock bass capital 
    of the world.  I'd imagine they'd be alot fun to go after on
    ultralights.  Bass'n Bob couldn't keep them off his gray grub. And if
    you should happen to hook onto a nice bronzeback in the process,
    hold on tight!
        
    Kevin, I'm not familiar with the south eastern part of the state.  But,
    there are plenty of bass'n waters around.  Pick up either the Delorme
    "NH Fishing Maps" book or "Clark's NH Fishing Guide", both of these
    provide fairly accurate information on where the good bass'n spots are.
                                                       
    The Merrimack is good.  As a matter of fact I just got back about an
    hour ago from fishing below the Hooksett falls. Released a couple nice
    bronzebacks, one was around 3lbs, the other around 2lbs.
                
    As far as the little honeyholes go... Ooops, got to go...

    I live, about 3 miles from the hooksett falls so I went there after
    work. It was cold out so I didn't expect to catch anything. I fished
    for about an hour and caught one small bass about 1 1/2 lbs. I'll
    be going back ther but I need to know what lures work the best,
    I was using a rooster tail. I find that they work just about any
    place you go providing that there are fish. Thanks for the tip Don
    its a nice place to go and relax and its only a couple of minutes
    away.

    in there for a couple of hours after work.  If you'd like to join me

    Your basic smallmouth artillery should do fine there.  I don't want
    to get TOO specific, I have a tournament coming up there with the rest
    of the ABCers who read this notes file too!

     Thanks for the invite Don. I haven't been around so I didn't reply.
    I'll drop you a line later and see when your going out. I suppose
    I could learn a few tricks about bass fishing, don't worry I'm not
    in the ABC yet so your secrets will be safe.
      TWo weeeks ago teusday I was at the falls and I hooked onto a
    large rainbow, this is a one that got away story, it was the biggest
    trout I've ever seen hereabout's. He had to be at least 18". I was
    out on a rock on the west side and I had no net so when I got him
    in I was able to get a good look at him and he spit the hook . I
    swore I would never tell anyone because no one would believe me.
     I gonna catch that sonnabitch sooner or later.

    I've been out crappie fishing 3 consecutive nights this week and
    while I haven't been catchinga hundred an hour, I have been having
    a good time.  It may depend on the local water color but one thing
    I've found is that the best color is white.  I tried yellow,
    chartreuse, red, silver, copper/brown and every other color in the
    tackle box and the only hits I had were on white lures.  The lures
    themselves didn't seem to matter; I caught crappies on grubs,
    mini-spinnerbaits, little crankbaits, roadrunners.  The technique does seem
    important; all my fish came from jigging the lures (including the
    crankbait - a rocky sr.)

    Well....well,
    
    Let's pull up this old note.  I spoke with Ranger Ron (who is
    recovering nicely from his surgery) and he tells me that this is the
    time of year to start lookin at them crappies.  any thoughts from youze
