I'm planning a trip to the Assinica Prov.Res. area in Quebec this
coming August and wonder if any of you fellow anglers have ever fished
this area and could you provide me with some info on where you tried and
what experiences you had? I intend to be targeting the native brook
trout as my main goal and have booked a few days at a place called the
Broadback, located just above a town called Chibougamau. We'll be
traveling up highways 117 & 113 to get there, so any recommended stops
along the way would be great. It's my first trip to Quebec so hopefully
some of you out there can head me in the right direction.

    Thanks!

There's a lake northwest of Chibugimau about 60 miles (4 hours in a
rented chevy) called Lac Frotet. Ifished there a few years ago and
caught brookies up to 4 lbs. There is a Quebec campsite on the west
shore, about 7 miles by canoe. We canoe-camped there and fished the
short sections of river that connect to 4 or 5 lakes to the west.
In between, you catch all the pike and walleye you care to.

    A great place, great fishing!!!
