| 64.1 | how about a right now pattern? | DONMAC::MACINTYRE | Terminal Angler | Mon Sep 16 1991 12:25 | 14 |
| | As the water temp cools I'll start fishing a pig-n-jig more. Probably
should have started this past weekend. Dan Jameson weighed in a 7lber
caught on a pig-n-jig at our NHB tourny this weekend on Pawtuckaway!

The water temp is still in the high 60's, I normally wait until it
gets a little colder before I start thinking fall patterns. I don't
know if you'd call this past weekend a fall pattern or not but I used
slugos early up tight in the coves, then switched to a 4" worm off the
points near deeper water, then when the wind picked up, switched to a
carolina rig on the flats later in the day. I caught fish on all
methods, but all small ones. I had a limit early and managed to cull
out a few squeakers but none of my fish even hit 1.5lbs.

| | Just thought I'd get this note going again.

I hear the bass are biting pretty good right now. I'm wondering,
though, how much longer the fall fishing will run before the bass
become less active. Hope good fishing will last through the end of
    October.

Does anyone have an idea how long the fishing stays good? Also, are
there trends regarding water temperature vs. fish activity?

I fish mainly in the Manchester, NH area, and have been catching mostly
small bass. Any good fishing spots within 1/2 hour of here where the
    big guys can be had?

    Regards,
    Denis

Denis, fishing will be off an on until ice in. The more frequent cold
fronts will turn the fish off and on until ice-in. The fish will
gradually move to deeper water but might occasionally be in real
shallow water where the sun raises the water temp.
If you don't have Clark's Guide, pick it one up. Between this and the
Delorme NH atlas you can most of the warm puddles in the state. If your
around Manchester then Massabesic is right in your backyard. Lots of water,
and some good fish. Lake can be tough to fish at times, but if you figure
it out you should be able to catch some good fish. The Merrimack smallie
action should still be pretty consistent too.
    tight lines,
