Bob has a large selection of plans that he sells. He brokers
plans from the UK. He has Mick Reeves and Brian Taylor plans.
He can also get plans from "RC Model World" a UK model magazine.
He charges for his catalog (I think $4.00 and it is well worth
the money if you scratch build). He also has 3 or 4 other catalogs
	that he brokers plans from.
He has SEMI-Kits of some of the plans that he sells (glass fuses
	and cowls).
He has a good collection of WW I 1/5 and 1/4 scale plans.
Interesting guy to talk to (finally meet him at Toledo last year
after talking to him by phone for a year or so).

These plans are top-notch. They are well drawn and easy to

	techniques. His plans include:
		Curtis P6E Hawk
		Piper Vagabond
		Diablo
		Piper J3
		Turner Special
		and more
Cowls are available from T&D Fiberglass in Michagan
Landing gear from Bob Slatteroe in Michigan
A SASE will bring you his latest flyer.
Wendell is local and I've seen his planes fly. I also have a
set for the P6E that is in the queue for building soon. His
	designs are really nice.

| 1344.17 | Looking for Data on F/A-18 Hornet | LHOTSE::DAHL | Customers do not buy architectures | Fri Sep 03 1993 12:50 | 23 |
| | I'm looking for all the information I can find on the F/A-18 Hornet aircraft.
I'm looking for accurate drawings of the real aircraft, rather than plans for
a model of it, but still I thought this would be a good topic to hook into.
Does anyone know where to find drawings of the Hornet? I've got a bunch of
small three-views, and a few cut-aways of the interior of the aircraft, but I'm
looking for more. The books I currently have on the Hornet are:
Aerofax Minigraph #25, McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet, Jay Miller
Osprey Combat Aircraft Series #2, F/A-18 Hornet, Lindsay Peacock
Modern Combat Aircraft #22, F/A-18, Bill Gunston
Arco Modern Fighting Aircraft Volume 7, F/A-18, Mike Spick
I've written a letter to the Archives folks at the National Air and Space
Museum, but haven't gotten a response yet. I also ordered some stuff from Scale
Model Research (both drawing sets), which turned out to be copies of things I
already had. I also got the large photo pack from them, which had a few
pictures that contained some new detail not available in the above books.
						-- Tom
PS. Does anyone happen to know where I might find, somewhere in/around New
England (USA), a real-live F-18 that I could photograph up close? I know of a
few airshows in Pennsylvania and Virginia next weekend, but I'm not sure I can
get there or if they would have a Hornet on static display anyway.

generated drawings of fighters, F14, 15, 18 and 22 come to mind while I

Drawings didn't have dimensions on them, but were to scale and did have

So far, I've found an F18 and a sample space shuttle (Columbia)
drawings. The drawing files are located at the following directory and
can be copied over the net:

    NILPS1::PUBLIC2:[WHITE_R.CCD]F18T.DWG
                                 COLUMBIA.DWG

The Columbia drawing is not to scale and is just a sample drawing that
comes with the AutoCAD package. Still searching for the others.

What's DXF?
Is anyone in or near Nashua NH USA running AutoCAD, that I might be able to

DXF stands for Drawing Interchange File. It's a standard file format
that alot of different CAD packages utilize to transfer files from one
    to the other.

I can create a postscript file and put it in the same directory. The
drawing is 3D. BTW, I'm located in Salem, NH.

involved with the building of a particular plane.

these plans is very hard to read. I just purchased the plans for the
Ford Tri-Motor and the plans are very detailed.

You can purchase these plane either folded or pay $2.50 extra to have
them rolled and put into a tube. However, there is no manual or
    building instructions included.

Are these plans for flyable models? Or do they represent the actual aircraft
structure? I assume flyable models with totaly different interior/structural
design.
By the way, I got a response from the Archival folks at the National Air and
Space Museum over the weekend, to my inquiry about info on the F-18. They said
that they didn't have much of the sort I'm looking for, mostly because the
aircraft is currently in first-line service with the US forces, and detailed
info doesn't usually come out until after a type has been withdrawn from first-
line service. They did send 15 or 20 pages of photocopied matierial, however,
taken from some F-18 brochures they had, which contains a few interesting
details such as how to open the canopy (four techniques: normal; manual;
forced; emergency), where the two batteries are (behind doors 10L and 10R), and
some other odds and ends that are fun to know about.
If anyone else ever wants to try their luck, here is where I wrote:

| 1344.31 | RCM Plans Guide | ANGLIN::BEATTY |  | Fri Oct 01 1993 17:23 | 19 |
| | The RCM plans are for a range of flying models that include gliders,
free flight, u contol, pattern, sport etc. The full gamut of models
is represented. Most of the time you can get a copy of the
construction article that accompanied the original plans in RCM. The
flying qualities of the planes may vary, for example, plans from the
60's may have fewer of the flying qualities of a more modern plane but
there are some fine flying planes from way back too. The complexity of
the planes presented goes from very simple to extraordinarily complex.
Scratch building is nothing more than building your own kit. If you
have a dremel tool and a little patience its not very hard. If you do
have at scratch building I would suggest somthing that has worked well
for me. Make a copy of the part you need to make from the plans, for
example, a former. Cut out the "picture" of the former from your copy.
Spray the back of the cut out "picture" with 3m M77 spray. Stick the
"picture" to your balsa. Form the part with your dremel using the
"picture" from the plans as a template. Peel off the "picture" when
the part is finished. Makes anyone look like a scratch building pro!
