              DECRCM -- Non-US Video Tape Distribution Process
        
        Our colleagues in the Greater Maynard Chapter of DECRCM go to 
        some considerable effort to video their monthly meetings which 
        generally have an excellent show-and-tell content.
        
        Eric Henderson then edits each tape and often includes footage 
        from outdoor events to make an NTSC format VHS video tape of 1 to 
        2 hours duration per month.
        
        Generally once a month, one copy of this tape is circulated 
        within the US and one copy comes to me for circulation around the 
        rest of the world.
        
        This is good opportunity to put faces to some of the names in 
        this notesfile, to see some of the aircraft they fly, both on the 
        bench and sometimes in the air, and to share in the helpful 
        presentations of 'how-to' techniques which are often a common 
        feature of the monthly meetings.
        
        I would like to take this opportunity to thank our colleagues in 
        and around Maynard for providing this valuable service those of 
        us around the world not so fortunate to have a strong local 
        Digital R/C modeling fraternity.
        
        This base note describes how the circulation process works and 
        reply .1 is a copy of the current distribution list label.
        
        The general process:-
           
        1	I receive a tape from Eric; I view it to ensure it is OK, 
                add the running time to the label on the spine if 
                necessary and attach a copy of the latest distribution 
                list label to the tape box
        
        2	There are a number of individuals in the 
                Reading/Basingstoke/Newbury area ( some of who are not 
                actually on the list ) and in order to speed the 
                distribution I try to arrange a viewing which everyone in 
                the area is invited to. If I cannot do this quickly then 
                I move straight to step 3 otherwise after our local 
                viewing ...
        
        3	I send the tape to the first person on the list; he views 
                it, strikes out his name and then mails it to the next on 
                the list and so on until it comes back to me ( I am the 
                last on the list )
        
        	Please feel free to arrange local viewings amongst your 
                friends and colleagues but remember others are waiting to 
                see the tapes also
            
        Changes to the distribution list:-
        
        1	On the label is an invitation to mail me if you want to 
                be added to the list, taken off or to have your mailstop 
                changed 
        
        	There is also an open invitation through this note to 
                anyone who wishes to be added to the list to contact me 
                via mail -- there is no cost to yourself all we ask is 
                that you view and pass the tapes on in a timely fashion
        
        2	Each time I receive a request I change the label and post 
                the revised version as a reply to this note, deleting the 
                old one at the same time
        
        3	What I ask of everybody on the distribution list is to 
                print a copy of this new reply, whenever it is posted 
        
        	If a tape is received which has an 'out-of-date' label 
                then replace it with a copy of the latest label, strike 
                through the names which were already struck through on 
                the original label and send the tape on to the next 
                person on the list, as normal
        
        This is a fairly simple system which does not rely on lots of 
        replies to this note but does cope with changes to the 
        distribution list even whilst a tape is in circulation.
        
        Someone may be added to the list at any time and then get to see 
        all tapes currently in circulation as well as new ones as they 
        arrive from our colleagues in the US.
        
        If everyone passes on a tape reasonably quickly then a steady 
        flow of tapes will come to each of us without any one of us doing 
        a great deal of work.
        
        If at any time you are concerned that tapes may be held up ahead 
        of you in the queue then I suggest a few quick telephone calls or 
        mail messages to those ahead of you on the latest distribution 
        list will soon track down a bottleneck and a few polite words 
        will have the process flowing smoothly again.
        
        If problems persist then please contact me by mail; I reserve the 
        right, as protector of the tapes and in the interests of all, to 
        'blacklist' anyone who abuses the tapes/process/others.
        
        May I suggest you print this note and reply .1 now and file them 
        for future use. I hope you all find this to be a simple and fair 
        way to handle the distribution; I would welcome any queries or 
        comments for improvement but would suggest it may be best to 
        handle them off-line by mail.

    Fellow non-US video viewers,
    
    Please note the new distribtuion label below; Scott Bowie and Ken
    Lee have been removed -- I understand Scott is not getting much time
    for R/C and Ken ( who has been a contractor with DEC for some time
    ) is leaving -- good luck Ken.
    
    There has been a lot of mail flying around lately re: whereabouts
    of these tapes. Some still have not been located but here is the
    current list of what's where ...
    
    January '89				with me after circulation
    February '89			there was not one
    March '89				with Dave Lewis in Australia
    April '89				with Ed Siegmann in Italy
    May '89				with Ed Siegmann in Italy
    June '89				with Allan Johnstone in Scotland
    	I think this one went to Allan after someone in Ken Lee's area
    	or the mail room could not deliver it to Ken (has he left already?)
    	opened the package and forwarded it ( I don't understand how
    	it has been around for so long though? ) If you have a tape
    	with Scott or Ken listed as 'still to see it' then please delete
    	them.

    That's it! There are still some tapes not accounted for but I cannot
    think how to avoid the problems we have been having -- any ideas
    anyone?
    
    It does seem clear to me that the system does rely on everyone viewing
    the tapes and sending them on QUICKLY -- please consider those towards
    the end of the list.
    
    Please print this reply now and put a copy of the label on those tapes 
    you have or receive which have an out of date label.
    
    Also until I have located all the tapes would you please mail me
    when you receive a tape giving the date of the tape -- thankx.

 	Well this time guys, it is I who has a new mailstop.
    
        I have come out of the right-sizing/reorganisation exercise with
    	a new job. I am finally moving right out into the field.
    
    	Starting on 5th November I will be working in the CSO region of
    	the UK. Based in the Leatherhead office ( close to London on the
    	south-west side ) I will be an account consultant.
    
    	50 - 60% of my time I will be the UK Software Account Manager for
    	McDonnell Douglas and the rest of my time I will support two of our
    	largest distributors in the UK - Hawke and Bytech.
    
    	This means that I will be spending even more of my time 'on the
    	road' and will find even less time for modelling and this
    	notesfile.
