| | Good luck on the maiden flight, Chuck. Joining a club and finding
    an instructor was a very smart move. You'll be airborne and soloing
    before you know it.

| 1019.3 | nice choice | RUNWAY::MORIN |  | Thu Jun 08 1989 17:36 | 9 |
|  |     you picked a fine airplane.they fly very well.the only thing
    i didn,t like about the plane was the control arm location
    for the nose wheel,if the servo seem,s to bind or makes a
    humming sound (like mine did) you can change it to a fire
    wall mounted control arm,the best of luck to you.......

| 1019.4 | #@$@% Engine | GENRAL::BALDRIDGE | Spring is here! | Fri Jun 09 1989 13:05 | 10 |
| | Well, I finished up last minute details, like put my name, address,
    phone # and AMA # in the plane, etc. Looks like we'll send it up
    on Sunday, if the weather doesn't do us in. It's been very windy
    the last few days. Now the #$@%^ engine isn't running right.
    I had it adjusted real well the last couple of days, but last night
    it wanted to be real balky. I only have a couple of hours tonight
    to work on it and no time at all on Sat, so I hope I can get it
    back to where it is running dependably.

| 1019.5 | GET A FUEL FILTER | TARKIN::HARTWELL | Dave Hartwell | Fri Jun 09 1989 17:32 | 8 |
| | If you don't have a fuel filter GET ONE. Little itty bits of whatever
    have gotten me too many times. Pull out the needle assembly from
    the carb, and flush out any junk. It will stay running better if
    you keep the crap out of the tiny hole.

| 1019.6 | Changed Glo-plug | GENRAL::BALDRIDGE | Spring is here! | Sat Jun 10 1989 11:32 | 15 |
| | The fellow that is going to be my main instructor had me do just
    that. In fact, he think one should have a filter on the end of
    the klunk that goes in your fuel can, one in the pump line and then
    a "final" filter in the plane just before the needle valve. I have
    one in the pump line and the final filter and now I'll add one in
    the klunk. I found out last night that the glo-plug seemed to be
    fouled or something. I put in a new plug and the engine is running
    pretty well. Altogether I have about 1 hour on the engine, running
    quite rich. Videocam, flight pack, and xmitter batteries all charged
    and ready to go tomorrow morning. This morning dawned bright and
    clear with no wind after some terrible lightening and thunderstorms
    last night. Hopefully tomorow morning will be just as beautiful.

    Getting anxious and nervous,   Chuck

| 1019.7 | WE DID IT!!!!!!! | GENRAL::BALDRIDGE | Spring is here! | Mon Jun 12 1989 10:21 | 22 |
| | We did it!!! I arrived at the field at about 7:30 Sunday morning
    and there were about 5 guys there, including Phil Nuckles, our
    erstwhile hobby shop owner(Phlying Phil, as John Tavares calls him).
    After watching Phil fly for awhile, I asked if he would be kind
    enough to run the PT40 thru it's paces and he said he would be happy
    to. He checked the plane over thoroughly, reversed one of the servos.
    I fueled it up and the engine kicked over like it should. Minor
    adjustments to the needle valve and we were off. Phil trimmed it
    out, made a couple of low passes over the runway as I was videotaping
    the whole time, then handed me the box and I proceeded to fly big
    rectangles. It had a tendancy to want to climb, so Phil cut it
    back to 1/4 throttle and I continued. Finally it ran out of fuel,
    so Phil took the box back and dead-sticked it in while I filmed.
    Right on the runway!! I got in a couple more flights later in the
    morning, so all in all it was a GREAT day! Phil suggested that I
    add a washer under the rear engine mount to tip the engine down
    a bit, which I did last night, so we'll see if that helps.
    Hope to get out Tuesday for a couple more flights, then on to
    Phoenix.

    I can stop shaking now, Chuck
