Since nobody wants another notes file for reviews I have another suggestion. How about a tabular summary of reviews. I will maintain, in a separate note, with no replies, a table of entries. If you have built a kit, send me a mail message, and I'll revise the table and repost it. Before everybody starts sending me mail messages, let's have a look at the categories and rating values. I'd like to keep the table to 80 columns so it's readable. What I have in mind is: Kit name Revi <-------Kit quality-----> <-Flying quality-> ewer Wo Pl Sk Ra Cap Sk Ra od an il ti abi il ti s l ng lity l ng -------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wood: A - First class B - Good C - So so D - Awful - Firewood Plans: A - Perfect B - Good C - Could be better D - What plans Skill (needed): M - Master builder A - Advanced E - Experienced N - Novice Rating (overall): A - Couldn't be better B - Very good C - Good D - Not my favorite E - I wouldn't recommend it F - I'll give it to my worst enemy Flying capability: F - Floater B - Brick A - Aerobatic H - Hot S - Scale T - Tender Skill (needed): M - Master flyer A - Advanced E - Experienced N - Novice Rating (overall): A - Couldn't be better B - Very good C - Good D - Not my favorite E - I wouldn't recommend it F - I'll give it to my worst enemy

| 461.1 | How about ... | AKOV02::DHUGHES | the OTHER Dave Hughes... | Fri Feb 05 1988 12:29 | 19 |
| Anker,

The format in 118.2 was pretty good.

I would add one or two more rating categories - one that comes to
mind is "general documentation". To me, "plans" are full-size sheets
showing the parts layout. The "plans" quality can be (and often
is) VERY different from the quality of the step-by-step instructions
booklet. Also, perhaps categories for hardware and basic "design."

One last question - do you propose to mingle basic kits and ARFs?
It seems the comments on flying might be germaine to both. (I think
there has been a lot of emphasis in previous topics on the KIT rather
than the PLANE. I am sure that building is an important aspect
of the hobby for many of us, but in some cases the flying qualities
of the plane might make up for any kit deficiencies, or vica-versa.)

    Dave

Not a lot of comments. Lack of interest?

Dave, your comment on documentation is valid.
Unfortunately, another category will blow the 80 column
limitation. I suggest we add a two line comment under each
review which will allow elaboration or additions.

As far as I'm concerned, we should include ARF's and
don't see any problem with the format.

Dan Snow and Kay Fisher have sent me reviews. They can't
be the only ones who have built kits and are willing to share
        their experiences!

If a kit has been reviewed and you don't share the
opinion of the reviewer, I'll add your review.
