As I said in 4.30 I'm adding this note to discuss organized/ROAR
off road racing. We have about 125 members and hold 2 races/month.
First thru third places in all classes recieve either ribbons or
trophies depending on what weekend it is and how much money is in
the club account.
We race
Novice
2wd drive stock
2wd modified
4wd stock
4wd modified
Sportsman...(class we set up for people going too fast in novice
but who couldn't really be competitive in stock .This works great
for kids that can drive well but don't have bucks to blow on something
like an RC10.)
This year we are going to install lights for night racing and
are hosting a invitational from about six cities here in west texas.
i am interested in knowing how other clubs are organized etc.
thanx

Hello,
I just built my first car, A Kyosho Ultima, and am planning to enter
my first race this weekend. The club here in Colorado Springs races
every Friday and Saturday nights. Fridays are for "Economy" class,
where cars must RETAIL for under $135.00. Saturdays are for all
other classes. Even though there are about 35-55 cars on Saturdays,
the 4-wheel drives still race with the 2-wheel drives because of
their small numbers. The indoor track is completely changed about
every 6 weeks.
Thanks,
Lorrin Lee

| 27.4 | N. Texas Off Road Racers | DPDMAI::MCCORMICK | Mon Mar 21 1988 18:09 | 23 | |
My name's Tom McCormick and I race with a ROAR affiliated club in
the Dallas area(North Texas Off Road Racers). We just found out we'll
be sponsoring the regionals on the Labor Day weekend at our track.
I'll get a chance to see some of the top drivers at work.
The classes we race are:
Tamiya-for kids mostly
Heavy Metal-all the BIG trucks and wild paint jobs
2WD stock
2WD Modified
4WD Modified
We ran 12 classes this past Sunday with over 100 drivers
and there were probably 300-400 spectators. The track
is 1/10th mile long, all dirt with plenty of jumps, turns,
etc. They have lights for night-time racing and will go
to that soon to beat the heat.
I've been into this with my 19 year-old son for about six months
now and I really enjoy it. I race an RC10 in the 2W Stock class
and he runs(when it doesn't break) a Kyosho Optima Mid in the 4WD
Modified class.
