1364.0. "USDA is out to ban hunting/guns from nat'l forest" by 8987::COLECCHI () Wed May 04 1994 14:09

I received a postcard yesterday, due to my attendance at a recent Sons of
Liberty meeting, briefly detailing how the U.S. Forest Service is making
a rule that can BAN FIREARMS FROM ALL NATIONAL FORESTS. Below is the
text, verbatim, from the post card. In a nutshell, this postcard was
sent out to alert people to the fact that the anti-gun folks are trying
yet another avenue to get our guns. THIS INCLUDES ALL THE 'GOOD' GUNS
THAT HUNTERS USE THAT ARE SUPPOSED TO BE SAFE FROM THE BANS, according to
public comments made by Clinton and all the other gun control fanatics
who say they only want the 'bad' assault weapons that are [on their own
power] killing people in our streets on a daily basis. It should be very
    clear by now from this info that they're obviously lieing about this too;
they want ALL our guns, no matter what kind or how many rounds they can
hold. This should highlight the fact that we must STOP THEM NOW before
    it's too late.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
The U.S. FOREST SERVICE is making a rule that
can BAN FIREARMS FROM ALL NATIONAL FORESTS. Here's the text:

From the Federal Register, Vol 59, No 32, Page 7886, SS 261.58
    (Occupancy and Use):

Paragraph (m) allows for the issuance of an order to prohibit the
"discharge of a firearm, air rifle, or gas gun." Under the proposed
rule, this paragraph would be revised to read, "discharging or possessing
a firearm, air rifle, gas gun or other device capable of causing injury
to persons or wildlife or capable of causing property damage..."

Now, if this becomes the standing rule (AND IT WILL FOR SURE IF WE DON'T
CONTACT THESE PEOPLE), then with the mere issuance of one more ruling,
the USDA can legally ban firearms, or anything else that is "capable of
causing injury" to persons or wildlife.

Want to take a firearm camping for protection? It will be illegal in
National Forest lands. Want to hunt? Sorry, only on private land! If
you don't like this, write and ask the gentleman below to refrain from
writing this rule into the book. Also contact your Senator and
Congressman. DEADLINE FOR COMMENT: May 18!

Write: Jack Ward Thomas, Chief (5300)
              Forest Service USDA
              PO Box 96090
              Washington DC, 20090-6090

DEMAND THAT THEY WITHDRAW PROPOSED RULES 36 CFR PARTS 261 and 262.

One of the network news last night did a story on what is happening
to the Buffalo in Yellowstone National Park. The "hands off" policy
in Yellowstone has lead to a buffalo population of about 3500, about
1000 too many for what the habitat will hold. In fear that the
buffalo will spread disease, ranchers are killing any buffalo that
wonders "off the reservation". Plans are being put in motion to
"manage" the herd population and to vaccinate them to prevent
    the spread of disease.
