1352.0. "Hunting ban proposed - Hollis, NH " by ECAD01::ROBERTS (stop me before I reply again) Tue Mar 01 1994 10:18

If you live or hunt in Hollis it should be of concern to you that
the anti-hunting bunch has again petitioned that hunting be banned
in Hollis. It's article number 11 and may come to a vote at the
	annual town meeting.

The last time this was proposed 1991, the amendment was tabled by
	the voters. It died 3-1.

Tonight is the town meeting and it's bound to be a long one. I hope
this bill gets tabled again by a show of hands. It felt good to see
these thing down in flames last time.

Some points to debate. They want no hunting period. As a land owner
I have my chioce taken away. Not even bow hunting would be allowed.

Not sure what happens when a rabid animal shows up on my property. Will
I have to wait for animal control folks to show up or will I stll be
allowed to dispatch animal so it won't harm pets and other wildlife?

Then the problem of future wildlife managment. Will we now spend town
dollars to hire someone to cull the deer?

Amendment 11 was defeated by a show of hands. The weather was bad, more
snow & ice, so the attendance was light for a town meeting. What really
gets me is, we (town) voted to purchase 28 acres of existing farmland for
conservation. No hunting will ever take place here. Many of those same
people that were hot for this land are horse owners. Didn't take long
for new riding rinks and more parking for horse trailers to some into the
    conversation.

I voted to secure this land and am willing to pay higher taxes too. Yet
these are the same bunch to ban all hunting and/or Sunday hunting so they
can ride with out fear of hunters sharing the woods.

They'll be back again...never will be satisfied. Maybe we can insist
that horse riders must wear a tag too when they enjoy the woods.
