    i saw something on this to in the local (minnesota) papers. but i
    believe it was for bow/arrow kill and not any firearms. i could be
    wrong. the memory ain't what it used to be.

    I read about the new record in one of the hunting rags but they didn't
    have a picture.  
    
    The guy was hunting(rifle) with a couple of buddies when they jumped
    the megabuck and he ran across a field.  He said his buddy missed it
    and he "got lucky".  The guy seemed like he didn't get the big head
    from it.
    
    I'm going muzzleloading tomorrow morning in Ohio, but I think his new
    record won't be in jeopardy.

    I brought in the magazine today to type in teh article, here is 
    what it says:

    "Almost 80 years after James Jordan downed the biggest whitetail ever
    known, that record has been shattered by a Canadian farmer and a 
    remarkable new trophy buck.
    
    Milo Hanson's giant 12-point whitetail, taken Nov. 23, 1993, in 
    Saskatchewan, has set a new standard for deer hunters everywhere. When
    it is officially scored, it almost assuradly will be recognized by the
    Boone and Crockett Club as teh new No. 1 typical-type whitetail. In
    the meantime, it is capturing the imagination of every hunter who
    hears of it.
    
    Hanson's trophy, when scored in December for Saskatchewan's 
    provincial record book, totaled 214 4/8 points in the B&C scoring 
    system. The Jordan buck, which was taken in Wisconsin in 1914, sported
    a 10-point rack and scored 206 1/8 points.
    
    Even allowing for shrinkage prior to the official B&C scoring, the new
    deer should surpass Jordan's mark by a wide margin.
    
    Reports of a big buck had been circulating fro more than a year in the
    tiny community of Biggar, Saskatchewan, anda number of hunters were
    searching for the deer.  Hanson and his hunting partners, after finally
    spotting the buck in mid-November, found themselves engaged in a 
    dramatic, week-long battle of wits with the elusive whitetail.
    
    The exclusive, detailed story of the record-book buck, complete with
    an array of on-the-scene color photos, appears on the newstands this
    month in the February issue of "North American WHITETAIL" magazine.
    More details will also be featured in the march issue of this
    magazine, as we bring you bonus coverage of this history-making
    deer."

    I think if I saw that thing in the woods, I'd be afraid to shoot
    it, it might get mad at me :-)

    I got this month issue of North American Whitetail last night in the
    mail and this buck is on the front cover. I didn't read the whole 
    article but some of the highlights were a 27" (?) inside spread and 
    when the guy shot it 1 of the shots went through the deer and a piece 
    of the bullet hit the rack so they used electrical tape to strengthen 
    up that area due to B&C rules that if the rack broke it no longer 
    can be scored. The "green" measurements beats the Jordan buck by close
    to 10 points.
