Let me put it this way, if an offer to go gator hunting is made, and
there is no bait in the flat bottom, don't go.

Never hunted in W Va. but have been, folks are friendly.

| | I can't speak for W. Virginia, but here in Georgia, the heart of the
south, I have not experienced any problems with hunters on public land.
I don't like to hunt public land, to many drunk idiots with big
foreheads. Like their relatives are movie stars, Deliverance was the
movie. My friends have land that is private and I hunt that. Just
don't walk out all dressed in solid orange, unless it's the law. Talk
with a drawl, and put a massive hunk of chewin tobacco in yer mouth
boy, and jus pass on through. mercy!

4 days for full draw. bob

I hunted N. Carolina a couple of years back, the only problem I had
coming from New Hampshire was that they made me try Grits for
breakfast one day, kinda like eating tasteless oatmeal :-).

| | I would have to agree with Bob, chewing tobacco does wonders. As long
as you let them win in poker every-other night, you will be fine. I am
from Kentucky and hunted around Romney WV about 5 years ago. There
were 6 of us in our group, we tagged 3 bucks opening day. They
averaged 110-130lbs. There were 2 guys from "Yankee-land" with us,
they never had a bit of trouble, and from what I understand, still go
    almost every year.

| | I've never tried W. Virginia, but I've hunted on the Virginia side
of the Allegany Mountains (within a few feet of the boarder). That is
beautiful country with a good deer population as well. I've heard that
this year Virginia will allow you to take 2 deer in one day. I enjoyed
hunting down there, but had to give it up. It was just too long a
trip, usually over the Thanksgiving holidays.

I wouldn't worry about being a yankee hunter down there, as long as
you can take a little good natured ribbing. Re: .3, you were lucky
if you only got to sample grits. I was "treated" to breakfast at
the landowner's house. Didn't want to affend the host, so I graciously
ate Deer brains and scrambled eggs. It could have been worst, on other
trips the crew were treated to mountain oysters.

    Enjoy your trip,
    Mark
