833.0. "Stabilised optical images..." by BRABAM::PHILPOTT (Col I F 'Tsingtao Dhum' Philpott) Thu Nov 01 1990 06:29
You all may or may not be aware that what amounts to the Photography
world fair - Photokina - has just ended. Whilst little that they showed
is probably of any interest to hunters the following snippet might be
of interest.
Steady On
... were the self stabilising 20x60S binoculars shown on the Carl Zeiss
stand. It is usually considered that 7x or perhaps up to 10x is the
practical limit for out and about handheld use. This 20x unit has
components which electronically counter-balance hand quiver and give a
steady image, once the user has centred on the subject. The system
works with 100% efficiency at the press of a key pad and will be a boon
for many types of application. The price though in Germany is about
1000 (that's nearly $2000 to you 'statesiders :-)) ...

And a little bird tells me that CZ have also got plans to build this
into high powered rifle scopes...
