Since I started this note, I thought I should put something in.

I am no longer a NAHC member. THe magazine was not that good and was
severly slanted toward Western Big Game, very few small game/upland
    bird/duck/goose hunting.

I also didn't like the fact that they constantly try and sell you
something or get you to join some type of club (book club etc).

Also once my membership expired I got alot of mail asking me to
rejoin, this went on for about 3 months after the expiration and
even after a phone call to them the ask them to stop wasting there
money on me. It got so that I dreaded seeing a NAHC envelope in
    the mail.

course, I am a western hunter, so I like their magazine. So far,
I think that they're ok. However, only time will tell.

I didnt like the idea of getting these books shipped to me then
having a bill of $17.95 in the box, when I didnt even request the book,
and then if thats not good enough they sent me a belt buckle, and

| | Yea, there was a discussion in the fishing notes file about the
NA"Fishing"C. I joined that because it looked like a good deal. Then
when I got into it it looked just like a big scam and a rip off. After
I was a member of the NAFC for about 3 months, I got mail asking me to
join the NAHC. That's when I realized it had nothing to do with clubs
    but big corporate scamming.

I never rejoined (although I thought the NAFC had a slick logo).

I still am using them. I sent them my report on the merchandise and
they responded with asking me to continue as a field tester. I haven't
seen anything since. I am getting fed up with the commercialism they
seem to be exploiting. I am always getting something in the mail from
them to buy. The last one was cancer insurance, from a hunting club,
give me a break. They seem to be getting more oriented to the dollar
than to the hunter. I'm getting sick of it.

Isn't there a law on the books which states that if someone sends you
something through the mail, which you didn't request, that you can
keep it and don't have to pay for it? Seems like there even used to
be public service spots on TV with this message.
Does anyone have more reliable information?

As for their publication...I find it geared to western hunting

Has anyone tried lodging an official complaint with the local
postmaster. Seems like this ought to at least be worth a shot.
I'll have to say, though, you guys have got me worried. I joined
NAHC about 6 months ago. So far, the only problem I had was when
I recieved a letter asking for me to send in my subscription money,
even though I already had. I just chalked it up to "crossing in
the mail" and forgot about it. They haven't really bothered me since,
other than the insurance thing. But then again, the NRA tries to
sell you insurance, too.

    re .14:

    > How do you get these people to leave you alone?!

I have a method that works great. I cross out my address and write on
the envelope "Deceased. Return to Sender". Then I toss it in a US
mail box (other than my own....don't want to scare my mailman or
interrupt my service!). I've gotten rid of the worst of them! We're
talking Columbia House is one of the notches in my belt (years ago).

As for books, I do a similar thing. I rip off the shipping order (the
envelope on the front) and open the box, put the envelope inside and
write "return to sender" all over the box in big letters. Then I toss
it into the big blue mail box. If the US Postal Service can find your
address, it will come back to you. So be sure you hide the address
where only the original shipper will find it when they get it back.

Please no flames about my abuse of the postal service. Did you hear
the price of stamps is going up again next month? Sure, no doubt
    because of me.

    Jerry,

There sure is a law.... and I used it to my advantage about 5 years
ago. You are also correct about there being some public service
messages on the tube about it. That was when mail fraud was a big
business bilking the public of bo-cou bucks.

I recieved a nice three book set of encylopedias along with a $100
bill. Kept the books and sent back the bill registered mail, return
reciept requested, stating I didn't order the set, but thank you very
much.... Never heard a word from them.

I talked to the clerk at the post office and he said if I got another
bill from them to bring the bill and the reciept of the registered
letter to the attention of the Postmaster.

    INTENTIONALLY!

These people Suck! They keep sending me books. I have finally gotten
to the point of writing on the damn box, "return to sender, no longer
    at this address".

They keep sending me bogus mail stating that this is my last chance to
renew. When do they get the hint.

I'll tell you what I am going to do, next box I get from them, it's
their loss. I will keep it, and not pay the bill. I will deny ever
receiving the box. Anything that comes via u.s.mail regular delivery,
they cannot prove I received it.

DO NOT JOIN THIS SCHLOCK OUTFIT! They are nothing more than a scam
    club in my opinion.

Also, I get sick and tired of magazine companies asking me to renew
when my subscription is two months into a year.

| | I was a member of the NAHC for a year. I, too, wasn't particularly
impressed with them. For instance, they make a big deal about members
field testing equipment and such, but they don't tell you how to
sign up as a candidate for field testing. I still don't know how
you do it.
As for the books, they sent me one, also. It was a pretty good book, too.
When they sent the bill, I chucked it. They billed me 2 or 3 more times,
and I ignored it each time. They finally quit pestering me, and I
haven't heard from them in a long time.
Jerry
P.S. By law, if someone sends you something that you didn't request,
you are not legally obligated to pay for it or to return it. In other
words, it's a gift.

not say how many issues a yr. It offers discounts on equipment too for
