    O.K. boy's, here's the situation.
    
    In the area i'm hunting in N.H. i have found a grass swamp that i
    figure must be about 140 to 150 acres big. The swamp is surrounded
    by 3 roads, to the north a paved road, to the west a tote rd, to the
    south a tote rd, to the east a hardwood ridge.
    
    Within this swamp i have counted between 90 to 120 scrapes and
    countless rubings on tress anywhere from 3inches to 10inches in
    diameter.
    
    Distinct runs(very distint) run in and out and along the edge of the
    swamp. Tracks are everywhere you step. I can only get in about 100
    yds then the ground is to soft to walk on, but the deer are in there
    during the day.
    
    My dad and two brothers have hunted this swamp on Nov,4th, 5th,and
    8th, To date weve seen 7 deer and taken 1 spike dressed out at 125lbs.
    
    The deer are moving very early morning and nothing during mid-day and
    evening (between 4pm to dark).
    
    I have found tracks in most scrapes that are the size of a 12Ga shotgun
    shell and a half and this is the boy i want. But I don't want to wait
    for him and ladyluck if you know what i mean. I want to get him, infact
    I'm obsessed, can you blame me. So I'd like some inputs from you all,
    Ive never rattled and am thinking of it, mock scrapes, and so on.
    
    The thing is like all of us, time is always a problem. I need something
    thats going to move this big-boy out of the grass swamp during the
    mid-day hours to where i am on stand. Not me going to him, or him just
    wandering about, but a plan. I figure him to be in the 4 - 5 year old
    range which I KNOW is going to be a challenge of a challenge.
    
    Any Ideas on how you would handle this happy problem.

	From some experience, I'ds think that in the afternoon, the air should be cooling, thus inducing a downdraft of air into the swamp area from the higher hardwood ridge. I'de take a bottle of tinks#69 and pour it onto a bush on that hardwood ridge, this is where a doe in heat will hang out when she is ready ( on the h/w ridge ). Set up some distance from this area where you can watch the downwind approach ( Mr Big will scent check first ). With a LOT of luck, you might be able to draw him out of the swamp before dark. 	rattle the big boy in... the ruts starting and all the bucks are getting a little frustrated... if your gonna rattle nows the time, before all the does come into heat.. then they'll be no way to get him away from the chicks... scrapes, their checking them... a friend of mine and I both saw 2 big bucks down in Mass tending their scrapes, he a 6 pointer and myself a nice 8 pointer... I would think some tinks 69, i used it and its working, and some buck scent would more then entice the big boy out... with a little antler tickling he should be putty in your hands 8^) good luck, Fra

	Do you know when he's moving? By this I mean can you tell if he's working the scrapes in the AM, PM or at nite? You might try tying some black thread along the trail in the morning leading to one of the scrapes and check it to see when it gets broken. Since the rut's on now, I'd definitely be using some Doe-P as an attractant/cover scent. If you find that he's moving at night to work the scrapes and to feed in the hardwood ridge, I'd put some good boots on and try to stillhunt the swamp. Scott

	Find a tree and put up a lightweight portable stand downwind from a healthy scrape, either at the edge of the swamp or a ways in. (Not too far, you'll have to drag that ole boy out) Set up some scent dispensers with Tink's 69 and be ready. Good luck. Dana

	Rick, don't rule out mid-day. I bumped into a big boy checking his scrapes last saturday at 2:30 in the afternoon. There didn't seem to be any reason for his movement either, no hunter pressure. The Tinks is a great idea......

	Since the season is now gone what was your result? Did you see him? What tactics did you use? Have you been there since the season closed. If you didn't nail him this year, Its not too early to get your plan started for next year... Curious, Guy
