    A few rfiends an I are considering the Berkshires for Deer next
    Saterday ( Bow Hunting) and none of us are familier with any good
    spots out there. We read and hear about all the deer out west and
    would like to give it a try.
    
    Will anyone share a good location with us? Just point us in the
    right direction , Where is the Deer hunting the best?
    
    We (I) have a 4X4 so fire roads would be no-problem
    
    A perfered area would be where we would not need prior permission
    to hunt as we are planning on driving out around 02:00 Saterday
    so as to be there when the day breaks.
    
    Any hints?

    Walt, 
    
    Two areas I hunted in the past were Northfield, Barnard, and also
    Erving. Just go Rt2 west and You will go right through the town
    of Erving, right after the firestation, take any of the rights and
    it'll brinh you in to good deer country. Also about 10 miles before
    Erving keep your eyes open on the roads signs to the right again
    for both Barnard or Northfield. When I use to hunt there I hunted
    and area called Satan's kingdom (Believe it or Not!) and I have
    seen alot of deer but to many people during the gun season so I
    cleared out. As for bow, good bow areas, as for people hunting,
    bow, DOn't Know. I'd advise that you get topo's of the area you
    select if indeed you are nor scouting beofre hand, it could help
    you out.

    I've been going out to Pittsfield state park to hunt.
    I've seen alot taken out of there.  of course I never get to take
    one out. it seems I only get to do sight seeing and watch everyone
    else get their share of the fun.
    
    I'll be out there sight seeing again this year too.
    (I think I'll bring a good book this time.....  8^{ )

    If you want to stay away from the area's that require permission
    stay away from the southwest corner of the state. Some of the town's
    down there have passed law's that require written permision. I believe
    Sandisfield and Alford are two of those towns. Anywhere West or
    North of Quabin (sp?) Reservoir is good deer country. Stay with
    the areas that have State Forests if you want to be safe. There
    is one in Conway and I think there is one in Savoy. I also recomend
    getting a topo map of the area your going to hunt. Especially if
    you can find one that has been updated within the past few years.
    A number of areas are starting to get built up, especially along
    the major highways like Rt.91.

    You guy's a WIERD! Tampons and buffarilla skins? It make the dead
    turtel sound good.
    
    How about somthing the poor deer would never suspect? I bring lots
    of apples with me for snacks, Take a few bites out of each and throw
    the cores around the stand, Even better if your up a tree or on
    a cliff. Now you could even bring a salt shaker for those apples!
    Hum?
    Deer like lot's of lunch time goody's like saltine crackers or oatmeal
    cookies or granola (Home made of course) and things like that. Why
    you could even scent your breath with applejack for the ultimate
    in natural hunting.
    
    Lets get back to basics- I'll let you know how the granola works
    tommorow.
