| A local guy got $50 dollars for his a few weeks ago. I have heard
that to the right person it can be sold as high as $500 dollars.
I talked to a trapper a month or two ago that said the going rate
was $50-$100 around here.

| I think I read an article once that they were used for medicines
or something like that. They had a writup about this in one of the
national Geographic's I get. It was about poaching taking place
around the globe and how much money is made off the black market
on some of the animal parts.

most bear parts, especially some of the organs like the gall bladder,
liver etc. are used for medicinal purposes amongst the chinese and
koreans. the organs are dried and ground to powder and dispensed
by our equivalent of a shaman/pharmicist for any number of malady's.
what most people don't know is that in china the most valuable part
of a bear is the feet. it is a rare delicacy. the paws alone bring
about $2000. but it is more difficult to ship fresh bear paw into
the country than dried and ground organ powder. most of the supply
of these rare animal organ powders and rhino horn are smuggled into
the far east. but the demand in chinese american communities is
growing with the influx of native asian's into america. so expect
to see the demand and the subsequent supply rise!
remember, older traditional chinese/asians do not believe in modern
technologically based medicine.they are from a very different culture
from our own. anyway after using ginseng for a while i'm a believer
in some of their rememdies..

| quite correct,remember their culture is very different from our
own, they will go to the shaman for evberything from standard
sicknesses to malaise to increasing fertility to yes even enhancing
sexual desire and performance. any given remedy though may have
dozens of prescibed effects when used in conjunction with something
else or when the people/culture believes the particular potion is
effective for their problem. kinda like believing in hypnosis, if
you believe it you can and will be hypnotized into doing just about
anything.... because you "believe".
