| WILDFOWL - This is one of my favorites. I have been very happy
with this one. My biggest complaint, which I passed
on the the publishers, was that they were getting
damaged enroute throu the U.S. mail. A couple of
months later they started sending them wrapped in plastic.
It is a fairly expensive magazine though.
SPORTING CLASSICS - Just picked up my first issue at the newsstand.
Enjoyed it thoroughly. I'd like to find out if all their
issues are as good. I might subscribe.
I generally stay away from Feild & Stream, Outdoor Life, Sports
Afield. Too many adds and I hate reading the first page and then
have to thumb through the issue to find the conclusion somewhere
between the blue-tick hound adds and the red wiggler worm farm adds.

| American Whitetail is a great magazine. It has alot of stories
about one of the smartest animals alive. I also agree with 200.2...
the magazine dosen't get my attention.............

Stream. I got tired of thumbing through the pages, then throwing
it out. Nothing much to read there............

North American Whitetail and Bowhunter are two pretty honest mags,
I agree also with several of you, stay away from Outdoor Life and
Field and Stream types -- Not so much for the ads, but the garbage..
A good book to get ahold of is Leonard Lee Rue's "Deer of North
America". Or go hardcore and get ahold of an Ecology/Management
book on Whitetails. Lots of interesting stuff, but maybe a little
difficult to read in some sections unless you're a bioligist.

| The NRA pub American Hunter and NMLRA's Muzzle Blasts are ok.
If you want some very interesting material to read try the
Foxfire series, it is the result of a project that was done
in an Appalacian school and contains all kinds of info and I
found it hard to put down.

John, "Deer and Deer Hunting" is a periodical that comes out monthly
during June-November and every other month during the off-season.

far as down to earth deer knowledge and facts go.

I feel like I should put a plug in for OL after the press it got
here. I've been a long time subscriber and think the articles are
great. I don't much like the format either, but the information
is always interesting and helpful. I think their Gun Dog Editor
Larry Mueller (sp?) is always on top of the latest in training,
equipment and care of dogs. The plans for the dog house I built
came from one of his articles.
While I don't subscribe to Field and Stream any more (too many
magazines 8^)), I still pick it up from time to time. October had
a nice do it yourself tree stand design. Hope to have one knocked
together for Mass Archery.
Just another opinion.

I hope I'm resurecting a good note here.
My favorite "outdoor"magazine is Fur-Fish-Game, out of Ohio.
I "know" that I'm gettin a sub. for Christmas, so the next two years
I won't have to lurk around the magazine store across the street from
the Mill.
There are stories on small game and deer hunting, a LOT on
trapping, hunting stories, a monthly serial story that is entertaining,
fishing tips, and nice graphics, just to name a few of it's features.
Try FFG for good reading over the winter.

Feathers, preferably the Mass. edition?
I recently sent a letter to Fins & Feathers at
PO Box 967 Harrisburg, PA
The post office tried to forward it to PO Box 12028 and it then got
returned to me with the notice of "Return to Sender, Moved, Left no
Address."
About 3 years ago, I entered a lifetime subscription with them. On
going through some old magazines, I remembered I hadn't received any
issues in a long time. I sent a request to the above address which was
listed in the most recent issue I could find.

I like the aforementioned "Deer and Deer Hunting" and "North American
Whitetail". Lot's of good information in these two magazines. I also
find the "American Hunter" to be a VERY good magazine for the price,
which is being in the NRA! It's a great bonus to get a magazine of this
caliber along with membership. I just finished a GREAT story in this
months issue entitled "Old Friend". It'll bring back great long lost
hunting memories of your own, and you'll also start to like all those
dings and scratches in that favorite old rifle of yours...
I've seen a few different bowhunting magazines out there... Which one
do our resident bowhunters prefer?!? I'm looking for both techical AND
hunting stories all wrapped in one... Comments?!?

| In my (very biased) opinion, the best bowhunting magazine is
EASTERN BOWHUNTING. The reason I'm biased is because my husband is
the publisher and I do some of the content editing.
EB is printed and distributed nationwide from right here in
Massachusetts and because it is used as a communication forum for
several archery clubs, there's a wide variety of hunting interest
stories published monthly. There's also technical support from folks
like Emery Loiselle, whitetail hunting advice from Dick Scorzafava,
a monthly column by Dr. Dave Samuel on how to deal with the antis, and
a number of other regular columnists.
I could go on and on about how great this magazine is, but it would be
better if you could see it for yourself. If you want a complimentary
copy of the next issue, send me mail with your name and complete
mailing address and I'll use my wifely prowess to get you a copy.
