| 161.2 | I wasn't sure whether to add .44 | DECWET::HELSEL | Well....isn't that special? | Mon Apr 25 1988 19:44 | 21 |
| | No. I was reading the note on .308 loads. Here in the off season,
    I am going to experiment with loads. I thought rather than just
    enter 1 load it would be best to add a seperate note for each
    caliber. That way, people would be more likely to discuss say
    a .xx load in one particular file rather than .xx's, .yy's
    and .kk-kk's all in one file. This makes for tough reading when
    people are toggling back and forth between loads.

    This is the simplest file structure that I could think of. I figured
    I would set a precedent and then if say, John Q. Noter wanted to
    know about loads of a particular caliber, John could add a new note.

    I don't even have a .257 Roberts or a .243, but I thought others
    in this file might.

    Besides Mark, this is a pretty dormant file. I thought I would
    liven it up. Are you going to enter your killer Elk loads so
    I can take advanteage of your positive experience this year or what?

    Brett.

| 161.3 | My .30-30 for deer. | DECWET::HELSEL | Well....isn't that special? | Mon Apr 25 1988 22:56 | 9 |
| | My deer load for .30-30 is 24 grains of Reloader 7 pushing
    a 170 grain flat nose Sierra bullet. The muzzle velocity of this
    load is around 2000 ft/sec.

    The ballistics are not that good beyond 100 yards, but that's
    what I consider the .30-30 range to be. Therefore, this has
    been a nice load for my taste.

    Brett.

Is a .30-30 too little for deer? :-) Just kidding.
I didn't know anyone reloaded 30-30's. Everyone I've ever met who hunted
with this round bought factory ammo.

    time.

    This is a pretty slow notes file lately, I agree.

    Happy Hunting! I'll let you know how my bear hunt goes, using the
    same killer loads 180 gr.

| | I've even tried 150 gr. Sierra ballistic tips for my model 94.
    They're very accurate,but,as you should already know,,using them
    makes a single shot rifle out of my lever action. Fun to experiment
    with,though.

| 161.8 | alway reloaded 30-30 | FLYSQD::NIEMI |  | Thu Jun 30 1988 13:31 | 6 |
|  |     I've loaded many 30-30s. I don't remember what powder or how much
    of it but I like the Speer 150 grain flat point. I've been using
    the older Speer reloading manual for my loads and they seem to work
    out of my Winchester 94 trapper.....
