    I am looking into buying a rowing boat. Not for the olympics something
    more spacy. Could be plastic or aluminum, maybe with a chance to
    attach a small outboarder, 15 ft x 35".
    
    Are there any magazines where I could find manufacturers information?
    Any other source? I heard that there are quite some companies in the
    New England area (up to upstate New York).
    
    Any hint appreciated.

I picked up a brochure from Leisure Life Limited at the Manchester, NH
Boat Show. They manufacture small plastic boats from pedal boats to
a 12' bass boat with a few rowables in between. The row boats are more
like 10'LOA X 55" Beam.

Many small boats can be rowed, few are enjoyable to row. These tend to 
be custom-built and of traditional design (my favorite is the Whitehall). 
See WoodenBoat magazine for builders and the International Marine 
Publishing catalog for many books about rowing boats. If you have time 
and a little woodworking skill, there are some nice plywood rowing boats 
you can build. An example is the Shellback (plans available from 
WoodenBoat). Maybe $500 to $600 for good materials and 105 to 250 hours to 
build. I saw a very nice one for sale recently -- $2750 including 
sailing rig.

    I was at the Maine Boat Builders show in March. A very nice rowing
    boat,similar to the ones Alan mentioned was displayed at the show. I
    asked about buying a bare hull, and the person said "talk to that guy"
    pointing to the next display. The person was from Colorado!!. The boat
    is molded in COLO and then finished in Maine. The guy from Colo is
    going to send me some info. He also has finished boats. I will send you
    a note if you are interested.
    
    BTW. This boat is light and long. It would be a great rowing boat but
    not a good motor boat. The two designs don't mix.
