They must have lowered the requirements for 10 and 15
year boat loans, cuz the Nautique's got a 10 year note on
about 15k and they even offered a 15 year note (ouch)...

Yes, I know of a couple people that have gone the
10-year *affordable* route...seeing how these boats
hold their value....right?!!!....a 10 year loan is
how I'd like to purchase a 94' tournament boat.
I'd like to shop around for low interest rates.
I'll probably get the loan first, (pre-approval),
and then shop for the boat.
With the economy being the way it is, I'd imagine
interest rates have lowered in the boating market
as well.
So...has anyone seen what interest rate is being
offered for boat loans?? Guess I'll find out soon
enough at this weekends boat show.

Eastern Bank has 9.0% for new and 9.5% for used. I just called
last week, looking to re-finance my boat. I do not beleive 10
years will be a problem. I have done it for 12K and 17K.

PS: you are really getting to be a "real" boater/skier ==> new
boat every 2-3 years. (whaler,baja, ???).
but I was the same (Tri-hull, baja, flightcraft) in 5 years.

| Mike,
I almost used Eastern to finance my home, but went with
Shawmut instead. I do have a contact at Eastern, you
wouldn't know what % you need to put down, would you? I'm
planning on putting down at least 4K.
Yes, this will be my third boat and definately not my
last. Boating is in my blood, I'd eventually like to
have a boat for salt-water too!

I do not know what amount they wanted down for my loan, but
I put down about the same as what you have and I would assume
you would be borrowing about the same amount for a new boat as
I did for my new one. I would think 10-20% would do it,
but call to be sure. (617) 599-2100 or 1-800-EASTERN.

Did you go to the boat show?? I went two years ago and that is
when I desided I needed a new boat, bought mine 2 months later.
I don't go to boat shows any more. :-)

I'm going to try and make the boat show this weekend
in Boston, I don't think I'll come home with a new
boat just yet....
I'm interested in the Brendellas', Malibus' and of
course the new Nautiques and MCs', but those two
are kind of pricey. It'll be interesting to see
if 9% financing can be beat!

| If you own a home the best way to finance a boat is through a home
equity line of credit. The interest rates are low, around 7%, and you
also may be able to claim it on your taxes.

interest over the long term?
Mike S. is right about the boat shows, it's hard to walk
away without a new boat! Let's see, will it be the 1990
Ski Nautique? The 1994 Malibu Skier? Or the 1992 MasterCraft
ProStar 190?? I like the latter!
Nautique owners, what year did the no wake/no spray new
hull design make it's appearance? Was it 1990?

| Jeanne,
You draw the loan against the equity in your house. The duration
of the loan is really up to you. Last summer I refinaced my boat
using a home equity loan, ended up with a 10 yr note for 20K at 7.5%.
The only glitch with this is that if you were to sell your home then
the loan on the boat is also due (because its really a home loan not
a boat loan). The interest on the home equity loan is tax deductable
(standard disclaimer...consult your tax attorny...)

| A quick way to save some money is to join AWSA, look in the back of
their quarterly magazine and buy one of the demo boats for 5-7K off the
normal selling price. I have been watching these adds and find that in
mid summer the demos get listed. I have seen them with as few as 35
hours to as many as 80 hours on a one season boat.
There are typically several choices in each of the catagories you
mentioned. The one I picked was the Malibu Exchelon LX. It has a nice
wake, low turbulence table, and plenty of room inside.
What ever you pick I'm sure you'll enjoy it but I would definately
check Water Skier (the AWSA magazine) for a real bargin.

Generally, yes - though its future dollars, etc.

Yes, '90 was the new hull - supposedly the SNOB has a
"similar" hull, but the wake doesn't turn out the same as the "real"
Nautique.

Well, Mike S., was right. The boats shows are dangerous.
I went to the boat show, saw a boat I liked, and bought
it within a week. The dealer put everything together for
me, got me the financing I was looking for....voila!
The boat is a 1992 (leftover) MasterCraft ProStar 190.
Came with a detachable faceplate AM/FM Cassette/CD! player,
4 speaker system with amplifier. (I'm more psyched about
the stereo system in this boat)!!
Colors are white/blue w/fuschia stripe. Grey interior
with dark gray carpeting. Did I mention the stereo system?
Spring....come'on!

| Thats great Jeanne, I know the feeling waiting for spring. It was
about this time last year that I bought Peter's boat. It looks like it
might be a least another four looooog weeks or so.
I got off pretty good at the boat show with just buying my wife a
new ski. She got the new HO LVT and she can't wait ether.

Congrats on the new boat. Now you know why they have those
crazy boat shows. This will be the longest Spring you have
ever experienced. :-)
I certainly can relate to boat show fever, I refuse to go to
any of them until I pay off the boat I have.
In 1992 when I bought my Flightcraft, I was able to
test drive it at this time of year. It sure has been a
long winter. Although the snow skiing has been great.
I too bought a new dry suit the spring I bought my new boat.
(some of you will remember the "semi"-drysuit I had before.)

P.S. ALWAYS remember to zip up the zipper
before jumping in the freezing cold water.
P.P.S. So when are you buying the new tow vehicle to pull the
new boat? Isn't that how it always works. Actually that
usually only happens to first time boat buyers.

I was planning on putting the boat in my sister's garage,
where she already houses a 1987 MasterCraft. We just
realized however, that the newer MC's are wider, and the
boat may not fit.
Yes, the downhill skiing has been great, I can definately
wait till' spring, I think!

Isn't there a note in here with Boat names either
seen/used/suggested. I always had penchant for the name "M.T.Pockets"
kind of gives a meaning to the definition of a boat being a hole in the
water for you to throw your money into. :-)
