1000.0. "Upstate NY Inland Waterways Info?" by TOOK::SWIST (Jim Swist LKG2-2/T2 DTN 226-7102) Fri Jun 26 1992 12:34

Does anyone have any experience, information, or pointers to information
on cruising the Hudson River, Mohawk River, and the New York Barge
(Erie) Canal. No notes on this subject and the book depts of the
Boston area boat stores are very Ocean-centric.

There are several Cruising Guides which cover the Hudson River, The NYS Barge
Canal (Erie Canal), and the Champlain Canal. I have seen them advertised in
a couple catalogs but cannot recall which ones. I believe that they were
published by one of the companies that produces the nautical charts.

New York State DOT used to publish a guide "The Northwest Passage" which
detailed all marinas, locks and points of interest from the Verazzano Bridge to
the St. Lawrence. I don't know if it is still in print because the only copy
I have seen is from the mid 60's.

Since these rivers are very silty and can change dramatically, with no notice,
I would highly reccomend new charts or guides.

I have been keeping my boats between locks 6 and 7 on the Barge canal for 7
years and have been down as far as Kingston, NY on the Hudson and up through
Lake Champlain many times. Most of the information I have is from other boaters
and marinas on the rivers.

If you need anything specific I may be able to find an answer.
