Can someone answer a dumb question about electronics setup in a
dual helm station vessel? (Loran, VHF, Depthfinder).

    1) Do you buy 2 of everything $$$$?

    2) Are there things like "two-headed displays" where you can see a copy
of the loran/df screen at the other station without needing a second
    antenna/transducer?

    3) Or do you hope the equipment you need is at the station you happen
to be using? (One boat I looked at the VHF and DF were installed
at the upper station. I'd be pretty nervous about driving a boat
from the lower station where I couldn't see the depth!)

    4) I can believe that such big $$ boats have two of somethings but
they certainly don't have two radars. Does this go upstairs or
downstairs? (Let's see I certainly might want to be inside during
bad weather, but then again if it's only fog, I'd sure be more
comfortable at the upper station where whatever visibility was
    best).

| Yes, you need "two" of everything. However, there are depthsounders
that have repeater capability and the repeated unit is cheaper so it is
not twice the cost. The same it true for VHF radios. The make a main
unit and a remote. I have a Lowrance digital depth sounder with remote
and a Raytheon VHF with a remote on the bridge. I have never seen a
remote for a radar. There are remote displays for a Loran that plug
into the NMEA 0183 output port of your Loran. You can also wire your
boat so you can move things up and down. It just involves buying
connectors and/or switches. Most people in the Northwest have radar at
the lower station since the weather when you are using radar tends to
worse and they figure they want to be inside. But I see a lot of boats
    with two radars also.

First off, its a matter of personal choice.

Secondly, (and i own a dual helm boat) i think one will find
they will prefer to be at the upper helm. This of course
is based on the assumption that there is a bridge.

If this rig were a tuna tower with a helm there, then it
may be a diffeent case altogether.

Once you get used to being in the bridge, you'll find it
very difficult to go below. The main reason is visibility,
especially in the fog, you can see better directly in front
    of you.
