To the moderators: Looked for a base note to place this but didn't
find anything. Feel free to move if you wish.

This conference has been a great source of information for us in the 3
years we've owned our first boat. Now I need to ask a favor.

My family's summer place in far northern New Hampshire was broken into
last week between Tuesday and Friday. The only thing taken that had a
serial number was our 1963 Johnson 5.5 horse motor. This motor is in
near perfect condition having been kept under cover except when in
direct use on weekends. It is mostly white with some blue and red
markings which are not as faded as you might expect on a 28 year old
motor. Serial number is 2314372. It can be found on a plate near the
attachment point. It can also be found on a plug on the starboard side
of the engine under the housing.

If anyone sees a similar motor advertised for sale or has any
information, please let me know. If you have a real idea on where the
motor can be found, you can also contact the New Hampshire State
Police, Troop F (yeah, F Troop :-) ) in Twin Mountain, NH. Trooper
    Yorke specifically.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Recently had the outdrive stolen off my 165hp Mercruiser while the boat
was parked inside a locked and fenced Marina near Lake Quinsigamond.
The service manager tells me this is an over 5k theft. The thieves
apparently went over the fence, cut the hydraulics, unbolted the unit
and took off with over 70 lbs of hardware. Since the theft I
purchased an I/O lock which prevents the unit from being unbolted.

Anybody else have any gruesome thefts like this? As a fairly new boat
owner I didn't realize I/O units were in this kind of danger. Any
    suggestions for additional security measures?

| Stolen Tuesday night/Wednesday morning 5/21-22 in Tyngboro, Mass an Alpha-1 Mercruiser outdrive. Actually, two of them, but Jackie's is the only one I'm concerned about. Any inside information on where these drives might end up? Bummer! Off the the outdrive topic to look for a rebuilt.... thanks, Rick | |||||

| Can you give the circumstances for the theft? Others (like me) who have alpha drives hanging around might be able to take precautions. Was it stole from a private residence? | |||||
