Does anyone have any direct experience with VOLVO "DUO-PROP"
I am considering buying a new 21' boat and it has a 5.0 engine
with this "DUO-PROP" I/O.
I've seen the marketing info, but I'm conserned about the reliability
of it.
Any info would be appreicated.

I have come across alot of the Duo-prop's..They tend to give just a tad
more performance, and are very reliable. The real advantage the folks
that have them tell me is in maneuverability at slower speeds and
docking. It seems the twin props tend to defeat the normal torque
characteristics of the single prop units. They have been around for
quite some time..

i have one on my 1991 chaparral. see note 387.4. you should really
check out the 4.3l v-6 with 205hp. it's lighter than the 5.0l v-8 and
has more horsepower. i love the duo-prop. i was beside a sea -rea
seville with a single prop and we both hit it at the same time. i was
on plane within seconds and he took very long to get up. both of us
had 4 people on board and mine was only one hour old. however, there are
no after market props available and when you bend one you often bend two!
this is supposedly a very reliable outdrive. the new ones shift quieter
than the original ones, but the older ones had no reliability problems.

I have no first hand info but when talking with a mechanic during
on of my many cobra rebuilds he had nothing but good things to say
about volvo outdrives.
