| 802.2 | great place for boating... | DELNI::GRABLICK |  | Tue Mar 19 1991 15:20 | 13 |
| | Narragansett Bay is a great place for boating, lots to see and do.
    Have you decided on the general area in which you want to keep your
    boat? The bay is over twenty miles long and probably over 12 miles
    wide in some areas (not sure about width), and there's many marinas,
    restaurants/night spots, coves for fishing, etc., etc.

    Tom and I have been leasing slips in the upper part of the bay for
    over 8 years now, so if you're interesting in operating out of
    the Providence/Cranston or E. Providence area, I can give you
    names of some marinas, hot spots, etc.

| 802.3 | I agree! | SALEM::NORCROSS_W |  | Wed Mar 20 1991 11:12 | 10 |
| | I have to agree with the prior noter. The only salt water cruising I have
    ever done (except the ferry boat to Martha's Vineyard) was on a 36'
    that my old boss had. He kept it near Cranston, I believe. We took a
    day trip down to Newport and stopped for some swimming in one of the
    sheltered coves. He let me take the helm (is that correct ocean going
    lingo?) while he entertained the rest of the guests. I felt like a
    million bucks up there, waiving to all the other baots going by.
    Really nice area. Plenty to see and do.

    I keep my boat in Bristol, primarily as transportation to my cottage
    on Hog Island. Most of the marinas see, to be in the East Bay with some
    new marinas in Providence. The4 marina I am at is the Pits- but ist's
    the closest one to the Island- I have a 4 mi ride as it is to get from
    Marina to the cottage- in bad weather nd carting wife, dog, 80 yr old
    mother in law and all my gear-that's far enough!

    Some Thoughts-I assume you are coming down from the North- the
    traffic down through Barrington/Warren/Portsmouth to get to the Newport
    area can be a real bear in the summer rush.If you are going to spend
    travel time, you probably want to spend it at the helm of your boat,
    noty the wheel of your car. I also assume you have a power boat, so
    making headway is a tad faster than with a sailboat.

    Going down 95 and into Warwick is a pretty straight shoyt and easy to
    get to- there are also lots of Marinas (Warwick cove MArina is one) on
    the west side of the Bay. There is also a brand new Marina (as of last
    year) in Providence- near the power plant- Very well protected and has new
    concrete floats I also believe there is one inside the huricane
    barriers just opposite the power plant(power plant is righht at 95/195)

     some other thoughts/ideas

    Pirates Cove Marina- Portsmouth- on the Seekonk River
    Stanley's Boat yard- Barrington
    Bend Marine (that's the old name- they have a new name) Portsmouth-just
    North of Newport on Aquidnick Island.
    BArrington YC. Barrington

    I can't vouch for any of these- there is a new Marina at the entrance
    to the Sekonnet River off of Mount hope Bay that has dry storage and
    they'll take up to 24 footers- Mount Hope Bay marina is the name- they
    might have a Portsmouth adress- new, good, profesional with on duty
    mechanic and full facilities

    Hope that helps- giver me a call if you want some other ideas

| 802.5 | MARINA AT BEND | SALEM::HASSON |  | Fri Mar 29 1991 13:49 | 15 |
| | THE 'NEW' NAME FOR BEND BOAT BASIN IS 'EAST PASSAGE YACHTING CENTER'.

    I'VE BEEN THERE FOR 3 YEARS, AND LOVE IT. FACILITIES INCLUDE FUEL,
    TRANSIENT DOCKAGE, RESTAURANT, BOAT/ENGINE SERVICE, SAILBOAT
    CHARTERING, NEW/USED BOAT DEALER.....

    RATES ARE 'NORMAL' FOR THE AREA, ABOUT $90-100/FT. FOR THE SEASON.

    EPYC IS ABOUT 6 MILES NORTH OF NEWPORT; FAR ENOUGH TO BE OUT OF THE
    TRAFFIC, CLOSE ENOUGH TO GET THERE QUICKLY.

    THE DOWNSIDE IS THAT THE IMMEDIATE AREA IS QUIET, BUT
    MIDDLETOWN/NEWPORT ARE RIGHT DOWN THE ROAD.
